A True Experience
Katie, Cabin #5, the camp director shouted across the crowd.  I was so excited about my first year at camp, but I was a little scared too, since this was my first time away from home (for more than two days anyway).  Camp was going to be a whole week.  I was anxious to meet new people, and participate in all the interesting activities.  I was ready for the week ahead of me, but I didnt realize that this was going to be an event in my life, that truly meant a lot.
It was the summer after my fourth grade school year, and I would be attending Camp Pee Dee for seven days.  One of my good friends, Dina was going to camp also, so that made things a little easier.  After registration and getting things settled, it was time for our parents to leave.  Then we were off to our cabins.  We meet our camp counselor, Laurie.  She was extremely nice.  I knew I was going to love her, and that she would make the week great.  Dina and I got our bunk beds right beside each other, which was good.  Laurie helped us make our beds, then, we were off to the Dining Hall for dinner.  After our evening activities and getting introduced to everyone, it was time to head back to the cabin, and get ready for bed.  Right when I got out of the shower I became really homesick.  I started crying and I wanted to go home really bad, but Dina talked to me and reminded me of all the fun we were going to have during the week.  I was okay after that (but I still missed my parents).
As the week progressed we basically had the same schedule.  We would wake up and go to the Dining Hall for breakfast.  Then we would have our Energizers and morning worship.  After that we went  to our Bible Study.  I learned several new things by this Bible Study.  Our teacher was very smart, and she also had a great sense of humor.  Then it was time for our Sport of the Day.
We usually played volleyball, kickball, or really anything dealing with a ball.  Now it was back to the Dining Hall for lunch.  At the time I didnt really appreciate it, but know I see that Nap Time was a good idea.  Of course, I would realize that, at the end of the week.  Then we would have crafts, swim time, and other activities before dinner.  After dinner, we had our evening worship.  Then we went our separate ways to participate in either hayrides, cookouts, canoeing, tennis, or many other things.  Then finally, it was time for bed (after a shower, of course).
On Saturday it was time to go.  Although I was ready to leave, I was going to miss camp.  During my week of camp I learned a lot of new things.  I came to realize that you never need to take your best friend for granted.  You never know when she might not be there.  Also, I realized that when you gave people a chance, they could really surprise you.  Last, but not least, I discovered how important of a role God plays in my life.  This experience was very important to me, and I know I will never forget it!
