Should we reinstate the Draft?
Should the Draft be reinstated?

On December 16, 1944, five German Field Armies began operation Wacht em Rhein against the Allied forces in Europe.  On that morning 32 Divisions of tanks, men, and equipment roll into the allied front lines.  But, that there are no men in the American front lines.  All of the American draftees decided to run to Canada, where they can "dodge the draft".  Well, that scenario never happened, but what if it had?  We would all be speaking German now and we would lose our freedoms that we fought so hard for.
Many people think that the draft is unfair, and unconstitutional.  Not having the draft is what is unconstitutional.  Many people also think that we do not need a large military.  Just because the Soviet Union is gone does not mean that we can relax and cut the size of the Military. If you qualify, you should be required by law to register for the draft.  If you did not want to go active duty you could register for reserve service.  As long as you did register for the draft and you went when they called you.
If you refuse to be drafted or register for the draft, you do not need to be part of this country.  If you live here, you should not be afraid to protect it when you are needed.  If we did have a draft, the United States Military could meet its quotas for positions in the Military.  It is not going to hurt anyone to serve in the Military for a few years.  If the draft was reinstated, the military should keep giving the current benefits, that way after you served, they could provide you with money for college or some other bonus.
Another common misconception about joining the Military or being drafted is that it is a one way ticket to your death.  You are not going to die just because you join the military or you are drafted.  You don't even have a chance of being killed if there is not a war we are involved in.  If we had a draft it would not only strengthen our military, but it would also strengthen the pride we feel about our country.
