George Bernard Shaw once stated, The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Given Shaws definition, discuss whether you would rather be called reasonable or unreasonable and why. Considering the quote The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself I would argue myself to be categorized as reasonable. I would do this because there are many times in my life where I have wanted something a certain way, but I was twisted and torn, and I revised myself and my decision to the ways of this world. No one can fully adapt to this world and its ways. One reason for this is because the ways of the world are rapidly and by the time you mastered the motives of this world you would be tattered and torn. You would have no energy or yearning that knowledge. You should not completely adapt yourself to this world because the world if forever changing, so you have to also be adapted and ready for change. If you completely adapted yourself to the world there would no longer be a you. Your unique qualities and individualistic characteristics would fade and you would become nothing more than an average passer-by to yourself and everyone around you. No matter how hard you try you cannot adapt the world to you. People are like abstract objects; they have to be ready and willing for change. The world is like a concrete object. In this situation the abstract has to adapt to the concrete. The world is unchangeable by you, so you have to prepare for the changes it makes to you. It is often funny when you come across an unrealistic person. The unreasonable person thinks they know everything and the world is not going to change unless they will allow or want it to. The unreasonable man is often disliked and referred to as being ignorant, or a know-it-all. George Bernard Shaw had a very intelligent thought about reasonable and unreasonable people. I will take it into mind next time I try to adapt something that is unchanging to myself instead of adapting myself to the unchanging thing or situation. Therefore, it makes sense to say that it is more reasonable to be reasonable. |
