Essay 3

What should I serve for dinner tonight? I am hosting a dinner party that includes a princess, a prominent inventor who initiated the ground work for some of Americas most popular contrivances, and one of the best athletes ever to grace this earth. These people I speak so highly of are Princess Diana of Wales, Thomas Edison, and Michael Jordan. These three people have affected my life in a positive way along with others in this world. I think I just heard the doorbell, it must be time for the evening to begin.
What was it about Princess Diana of Wales that sent a plague of sadness across the earth due to her fatal car crash in 1997? Maybe it was the way that British monarchs disliked her for acting like a movie star instead of a princess. She often had a look of sadness on her face, but was one of the richest, most glamorous, and socially powerful women in the world. In a way she was a movie star, her whole life was a drama that people followed through the tabloids. With all of her money, power, and fame she still felt compassion for AIDS patients, land mine victims, and people suffering from malnutrition in poverty stricken places across the world. I think it was a combination of all these elements that made Princess Diana the person that everyone loved.
Who would want to invite someone with three months of formal education to dinner? I mean what could they possibly have done to change the world? Thomas Alva Edison was one of the greatest inventors and industrial leaders throughout history. One of his most popular contributions is the concept of electric lighting. Along with creating the light bulb, he also set up the first electrical power distribution company. Thomas Edison also invented the movie projector, the phonograph, and improved the quality of the telephone. When Thomas Edison was born there was no such thing as electricity, but by the time he died entire cities glowed with lights. Edison wasnt limited to only creating inventions he also was an industrial genius. He along with other businessmen of his time are responsible for making the United States a world industrial power.
Can you imagine an athlete bringing over an estimated billion dollars to Americas economy? This unbelievable feat was accomplished by Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player to ever lace up a pair of shoes. He was named the NBAs MVP for five years throughout his thirteen seasons in the league. He also led the United State to two gold medals in the 1984 and 1992 Olympics. Almost every single record that has been established he has smashed it in style. The one thing that Michael Jordan has taught me is to never give up. In ninth grade Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and look at him today. The icon of basketball, wealthy, and one of the most respected men on this earth.
With all these great people our conversation at dinner could last for days. I chose Princess Diana because of the respect and admiration millions showed her. I chose Thomas Edison because of the intellect he reflected upon his time and years to come. The reason I chose Michael Jordan was because of the way he has impressed people with his gravity defying maneuvers on the basketball court. I feel everyone could all learn a lot from these three people, and if this were reality it would be a dream come true.
