| It was a big day for the little one. He was just minutes away from being Americas newest citizen. The time had come; he heard new sounds and felt movement. He was being pushed through a small place. A gloved hand grabbed his tiny feet and he felt air touch his body for the first time. His hands were free. Then he felt a sharp pain at the base of his skull. He jerked violently. And thenit was over. And the Supreme Court, in its wisdom, saidSo, whats the problem? Five more seconds and this baby would have been in the cradle, but instead it is in the grave. This baby was killed by partial-birth abortion. Partial-birth abortion is a high risk, gruesome process that usually takes place in the third trimester of pregnancy. The third trimester includes the period from the 25th week until birth. However, some partial-birth abortions occur in the fifth and sixth month also. In this procedure, the abortionist, guided by Ultrasound, grabs the babys leg with forceps and pulls it into the birth canal. The babys entire body is then delivered except for the head. The abortionist jams scissors into the babys skull and opens the scissors to enlarge the hole. After the scissors are removed, a suction tube is inserted. The babys brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The doctor then removes the dead baby. Who would want to commit such a cruel act as to kill a fetus that could kick, cry, and within a few minutes, cuddle against his or her mother? Partial-birth abortion is despicable; although it is legally accepted, it is not correct and should not be legal. A baby is being murdered and discarded with no remorse. How can anyone argue that a fetus is not a life when it is almost or fully developed? In the definition of abortion, is says that abortion is accompanied by or results in the death of the fetus. If something dies, doesnt it have to be alive in order to die? If the fetus wasnt a living thing, then it couldnt die. The fetus is definitely a life, thus causing the death of this baby is murder. Murder is against the law, but the government has signed its approval to kill innocent babies. Human laws shouldnt condone abortion and Gods laws definitely condemn it. Exodus 20, verse 13 clearly says, thou shalt not kill. However, women are killing their babies everyday for mainly elective, not medical reasons. They do not seem to realize or care how far along they are. Women also disregard the high risk that comes along with partial-birth abortion. The risk of dying from an abortion increases 30 percent with each week of pregnancy after 12 weeks.3 Why should they place such a high risk on their life just to kill a baby? Partial-birth abortion is not a procedure that has to be done. If the procedure is performed at the end of the sixth month through the ninth month of pregnancy, the baby can survive with little difficulty. Although medical help may be needed in some cases, the baby should still have the chance to live. Sure, women have babies taken because of medical reasons, but if they have waited until the third trimester, its not necessary to kill the baby.2 Why should the baby be brutally killed when it could survive and be healthy? A lot of people would gladly adopt the babies that are being killed, but they dont have a chance to adopt. The mothers sign the babies lives away instead of signing adoption papers. Giving up a baby does not affect a womans conscious as much as killing the baby does, so why dont mothers give their babies up for adoption instead of killing them? Partial-birth abortion should be completely banned. Although the President has insisted that he would favor a stringent ban with only a limited exception for serious health reasons, this ban wouldnt kick in until the beginning of the seventh month. This would not affect the partial-birth abortions performed in the sixth month or even fifth month. These serious health exceptions include psychological distress, familial status, and the youth of the mother. So, essentially a baby does not stand a chance when the mother decides he or she is unwanted. This is something that has to be stopped. If mothers carry the baby to six and seven months, why couldnt they carry this life for a few more weeks and sign adoption papers? Adoption is one hundred percent better than abortion. Something has to be done. Just think, someone could have signed your life away and you would not be here today either. Everybody, including partially born babies, should have the chance to live. Partial-birth abortion should not be legal; please do your part to make this come true. |
