I AM
UNREASONABLE
George Bernard Shaw stated, the reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the

unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself."  When I first asked

myself whether I am a reasonable or unreasonable person; of course I chose reasonable.

To me, unreasonable means stubborn.  I do not want to consider myself stubborn.  But the

more I think about Shaw's statement, I feel he means the unreasonable man is confident

and sound in his decisions.

A reasonable man will adapt to the world. He simply surrenders to it.  The world will

persuade his morals and character.  Such things as violence, poverty, and hate are not

uncommon to him, but simply a part of life.  After some time the reasonable man not only

adapts to the world; he becomes the world.

An unreasonable man manages to distance himself from the world.  To the

unreasonable man the world is not life, just a place for it.  His morals and character are

based on what is right for him; the are not based on the influence of the world.  The

unreasonable mans sees the world as a place yearning for help and he pities the violence,

poverty, and hate.  The unreasonable man perceives the world as a challenge, a test.

The reasonable man's life is easier and less complicated than the unreasonable man's.

To simply take what life gives and mold to it, never standing up for what is right and

always going along with whatever is presented; these are the attitudes of a reasonable man.

In a world such as the one we live in, it is scary to think about what happens to those

people who, like the reasonable man, become a part of the world.
