I don't have any nice, long-winded thoughts or stories to share tonight (I'm rather tired, actually... why don't I just head off to bed? I have no good answer for that, sadly). I just wanted to share this quiz result...

What Sort of Romantic Are You?

brought to you by Quizilla
You're a Romantic Realist. That's quite a paradox, but a good one. You can appreciate love and all things related to romance, but you do it without getting caught up in the commercialized mess. You've got a good head on your shoulders, for the most part.

Pretty accurate (especially for an online quiz result). Good night, all!

So what happened to Cordelia, eh? Sorry about that disappearing act, guys... school and extra-curriculars have caught up with me, and although I've spent time online, I was engaged in mindless surfing, and couldn't dredge up even a spark of creativity.

However, I'm at school now (celebrating the fact that I've finished my computer science project... woo hoo!) and was hit by a sudden urge to blog. I'm taking this as a good thing, because I've really missed it.

Thank you to Larina for the kind comments in my guestbook! I just read them today, and they made me feel so... important (???... not the right word, but it'll have to do). I really appreciate it! *hugs*

On a practical note, I think that, sadly, Netcomments is now gone for good :(. They were a great service for a while there, and I'm also pretty upset that I've lost all the sweet and witty comments that my visitors have left. (Yes, you're all extremely sweet and witty... yes, you are!) However, I've signed up for an account at Haloscan- please keep your fingers crossed that this one works out!

I was searching for a joke to send to my friend today, and I stumbled upon this one from the Good Clean Fun Archive. LOL material, or at least I think so.

Cambridge Cakes and Ale

Here is a purported to be true story someone found regarding exams at Cambridge University. It seems that during an examination one day a bright young student popped up and asked the proctor to bring him Cakes and Ale. The following dialog ensued:

Proctor: I beg your pardon?

Student: Sir, I request that you bring me Cakes and Ale.

Proctor: Sorry, no.

Student: Sir, I really must insist. I request and require that you bring me Cakes and Ale.

At this point, the student produced a copy of the four hundred year old Laws of Cambridge, written in Latin and still nominally in effect, and pointed to the section which read (roughly translated): "Gentlemen sitting examinations may request and require Cakes and Ale." Pepsi and hamburgers were judged the modern equivalent, and the student sat there, writing his examination and happily slurping away.

Three weeks later, the student was fined five pounds for not wearing a sword to the examination.

What a day. I've had so many experiences crammed into today that I hardly know where to begin. I'm afraid that I'll forget most of them halfway through, but I'll try my best.

I caught the ridiculously early bus this morning. When I got on, I realised that there were no seats in the regular (front-facing) seats in the bus, so I sat in the front section. Nearly immediately, some guy got up from the back of the bus, walked in front of me, then sat down beside me. I nearly freaked out! Who was this nutter? People on buses here don't switch seats, and certainly don't talk to one another unless they get on together.

My paranoid nature flowing freely by this time, I glanced in the direction of the intruder. Then I almost burst out laughing. It was one of my friends from my old school! I had somehow managed to not notice him on the back part of the bus, but he saw me get on. That was worth a good mental chuckle.

You see? I'm forgetting all of my exciting news already. Now I must leap to the last class of the day, because I can't for the life of me remember my wonderful stories of the morning.

There's a class that I desperately wanted to get into, but it was full with a waiting list. However, I talked with the prof and she agreed that I could sit in on the class today, so that if someone dropped the class, there was an off chance that I might be able to get in. I absolutely adored the class and the prof, and I just had to be accepted! I needed to be able to take it, somehow! I spoke with her after class, and after much cajoling and begging, she let me in. She said that I made a good impression on her- always nice to be told that. I know that I really wasn't supposed to be able to get in, so I'm flying really high now- the class is fabulous!

After dinner and a round of trying on bridesmaid dresses (I'm going to be in a wedding party in March), I got a call from my mom. A friend of hers was having trouble printing on her computer, and was trying to save the file to be printed elsewhere. I tried giving directions over the phone, but to no avail. Once I got over there, I realised why- the entire system was screwy. You couldn't access the floppy drive, the Internet would magically cut out and shut down whenever it felt like it, the printer was useless and the whole system would periodically freeze on a whim. After about an hour of trying to send it via the Net one way and another, they wanted me to give up. Cordelia, however, can be stubborn (), and I had to try just one last thing, of course. That one last thing worked, and I was so happy for her! Otherwise, she would have had to write it all out longhand from the monitor (ugh!). At least she's going to be able to sleep tonight- it's all printed.

Phew! That wasn't even half my day, and I managed to rant on for far too long. I just wanted to share some of the madness, and some of my happiness. It's almost the weekend *hurrah*!

I wrote out the date many times today, and I was painfully aware of it every single time. Every note I dated, every form I filled out... it all reminded me of the date that one simply cannot forget.

I was reading over some of the lovely comments left in my guestbook (thanks, guys! *hugs all around*), when I just realized something. The fun poem, "Dust if You Must", that I posted in an earlier entry wasn't written by me, but I got the feeling in some of the messages left that you were giving me the credit. I wish that I was that poetic *lol*. I've added "Anon" to the bottom to make this clearer. The poem was actually passed onto me via an email forward. Sorry about the confusion!

Fall Girl from Irenescorner.com I wish that it would rain. Somehow I always feel much better when it's raining- I'm more creative, more efficient, more productive. I have no idea why.

I was sure that it was going to rain earlier this afternoon, when I was out walking. The fact that I might have gotten drenched really didn't bother me a bit. However, there's not even a cloud in the sky now, so I think that all chances of a lovely late summer (early fall?) shower today are slim to nil.

Have you ever noticed that when you tell yourself, "All right, time to be creative! Go!", all good ideas pack up and take the first express train out of your mind? All you're left with is the miserable chaff you wouldn't even consider if you weren't under time constraints. At least that's what happens to me. If it doesn't happen to you... well... er... just ignore this bit, and count yourself fortunate indeed!

I just want to take a moment to thank the many kindred spirits at the various forums and groups I'm a member of (if you're reading this, you know who you are ). Your kind, funny and encouraging words mean so much to me. Thank you for all being such fabulous people!

And it's credit time... If you hover your mouse over the adorable fall girl, you'll see that she's from Irenescorner.com. Irene is a very talented country graphics artist who makes the most adorable kids to go with her sets. If you like country graphics, be sure to stop by.

Dust if you Must

Dust if you must but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake a cake or plant a seed.
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.

My blog commenting system seems to be down (again), so I've signed up for a new guestbook. Hopefully it will prove to be more reliable than Netcomments! *rolling eyes*

Are you going to be a lovely person and make Cordelia's day by leaving her a cheery, thoughtful message? If you are, I'm giving you a hug! The URL to the guestbook is http://civilityblog.signmyguestbook.com/.

I've added two lovely blogs to my reads today. The first is Sick & Wicked. Mags of Tilneys and Trapdoors has entered into the world of blogging! I'm so excited . Her blog is very literary, with a fine edge of wit to it. Whenever I read her blog, I feel as if I'm in a European caf, sipping coffee, listening to the droll humor of writers and artists.

The second blog is Lady Crumpet's Armoire. She is a confirmed Anglophile like myself, and a really lovely lady. Stepping into her corner of the web is like sifting through fine linen and china in a sunfilled antique shop.

Yes. Erhm. I've gotten a little carried away with my similies there. I'm always a little self-conscious when I veer into poetry. Never mind me .

What do you know? I'm actually doing a daily on the proper day. *Cordelia waits for her faithful readers to faint, then recover, on elegant couch provided for this very purpose*

This-or-That Tuesday

1. CandyLand or Chutes and Ladders?
Is Chutes and Ladders the same as Snakes and Ladders? If so, definitely Chutes/Snakes and Ladders.

2. Barbie or GI Joe?
Barbie, she admits.

3. Play-Doh or Silly Putty?
Silly Putty- you can make backwards copies of newsprint with it! How can you beat that?

4. Lincoln Logs or Tinkertoys?
Er... I've never heard of Lincoln Logs, so it'll have to be Tinkertoys.

5. The Game of Life or Monopoly?
Monopoly!

6. Etch-a-Sketch or Lite-Brite?
Lite-Brite! The hours of enjoyment with Lite-Brite! :)

7. The Slinky: metal or plastic?
Toughie... The plastic ones didn't get tangled as easily, but you can't beat the- er- slinking action of an honest-to-goodness metal one. I'll have to go with metal.

8. Easy-Bake Oven or Sno-Cone Machine?
I never owned an Easy-Bake oven, nor did I ever particularly wish to. Sno-Cone maker it is! (I had to grind the ice by hand in mine... I hear they have mechanized ones now. Hmph.)

9. Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars?
Hot Wheels, by default.

10. Spirograph or Paint-by-Numbers?
Spirograph, without a doubt. Who knew that plastic gears and a pen could hold so much enjoyment?

This-or-That
