Sleepy Fae from Josie I have been surfing some absolutely marvellous websites today. So much of the Internet is down and depressed, but these sites are actually.... (wait for it)... cheerful! *waits for visitors who have fallen off their chairs to climb back up*

FrenchToastGirl.com - "Car Dancing" (be sure to look at the rest of her site)
Print.Pitas.com - "Happy Lists"

The cute little fae above is from Josie, one of my favourite doll artists. I chose that fae for today because a) it's adorable and b) I'm sleepy, too!

I would put Mrs. Bennet up against the Green Goblin anytime.

My goodness, with a quote like that, how on earth could Cordelia be expected to pass this link by? It's from an Article called Jane Austen's Spider-Man, and it simply confirms that I must see this movie!

Fallingashes.net - Which Star Wars character are you? As I was working, something just hit me- I haven't seen the new Star Wars movie yet. It's really strange! I saw Episode I the day it came out (a friend had "connections" *wink*), and I was really looking forward to seeing Episode II, but never quite got around to it. How weird is that? Huh- go figure.

Online quizzes are completely addictive. I have Camille to thank for feeding my addiction, because she always finds the coolest quizzes to feature in her blog. The irony of this situation is that today I took the GRRR quiz, and ended up being most like Camille. Whoa. What were the odds? (Considering that I can't live without her blog, of course.)

Which GRRR Diva Are You?
This quiz was made by GRRR
Wallpaper- Not all those who wander are lost... I was fooling around in PSP today, and made a little something to share with my visitors: a wallpaper. It's nothing fancy, but I personally like my wallpapers fairly simple. It uses a piece of art by Waterhouse, one of my favourite Pre-Raphaelite artists, as well as a quotation from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, by J. R. R. Tolkien. Feel free to download it and use it on your PC... just don't re-distribute it without giving me credit, okay? :)

Happy Victoria Day Happy Victoria Day!

*cues Rule Britannia* It's Victoria Day in Canada today, and in honour of this momentous occasion, I've gathered together a few resources on Britain's monarch of one of my favourite eras.

[ Queen Victoria's Empire by PBS ]
This site features, amidst great gobs of historical info, a screensaver detailing the colonial holdings of the British Empire during Queen Victoria's reign.

[ Queen Victoria, from the Victorian Emporium ]
A short biography about the life of the monarch, complete with quick, intriguing factoids. (Plus, it's from The Victorian Emporium- how can you go wrong?)

[ So You Wanna Serve High Tea? ]
The practise of taking high tea is associated with Queen Victoria and her era, and this informative (yet slightly irreverent) article tells you exactly how to do so.

I'm in the midst of exams, and yet I'm blogging. I'm tired and, well, tired, and yet I'm blogging. I should be memorizing everything in my math book, and yet I'm blogging. Ah. Good to know I'm still functioning!

Okay, I'm feeling sort of down, so I thought I'd post this lovely quiz result to make myself feel better... *repeats description to self over and over*

Royalty Quiz You are a Queen!
Beautiful, Wise, Strong
Righteous, Commanding, Humble

You are the beautiful and compassionate Queen. You are the epitomy of what every woman should be. You are confident, bold, aggressive, smart, womanly and feminine. You know the right thing to do and do it. You command respect and earn praise. You are moral and loving. In times of trouble, you draw strength from within, and are a source of strength for others.

Which Royalty Are You? Find out! By Nishi.

Wowee! That's what I needed to pick myself up. Not that I believe it, but I can pretend I do. *winks* By the way, I do adore that painting... It's by Edmund Blair Leighton, whose work I love! I challenge you to run a search on Google, find some of his work, and tell me if you don't fall in love with it.

Today was my last day of school- now I "simply" have to get through two weeks of exams, and then I'm free! Free as a lark... until next fall, of course.

This school year seemed to drag on forever; I can hardly believe that it's finished. I still *ugh* have to finish up some term work before exams are over. However, for the most part, I am done, whether I like it or not.

Okay, this might seem dumb, but I wrote a haiku *insert insane laughter here*. Finished? All right... I got this idea from a friend who wrote a funny one in English class today. I never thought of writing one, but somehow the spartan nature of haiku appeals to me right now. Yes, you can go off into a corner and have your little laugh now...

Completely alone with my thoughts.
Has it all been worth the trouble?
I really can not say.

Perhaps I'm feeling a little... er... artsy because we did, not simply a poem, but a middle-English poem in English class today. All right, I'm resisting the urge to delete this all!

All right, I'll 'fess up- I indulged in two childish pleasures today. But remember, they're not harmful to one's health, society or life, and they're not addictive... okay, well just a little addictive...

Strawberry Shortcake- the ultimate spring/summer guilty indulgenceFirstly, I succumbed to the lures of the ice-cream truck on my way home today; the sight of that white van just conjures up memories of summers gone by to me. They even had Strawberry Shortcake bars, the ultimate kid indulgence (or at least to me). At the first bite of the bar, I felt like I was about 8 (and a half, she added solemnly) years old. Mentally, I was tooling around on my bike with a flyaway ponytail, a matching short set and long gangly legs (which never could quite escape having a bruise or scrape at the knee, somehow). I even was able to recall the delicate art of making a Strawberry Shortcake bar last as long as possible without dripping it onto yourself (quite a feat, if you've ever tried it!).

Arthur @ PBSKids.orgSecondly, I watched Arthur with blatant disregard for all the pressing things I ought to have been doing. Now, if you've never watched Arthur, you're missing out on one of life's greatest pleasures! It's a charming kid's show, but there are also quite a few references and jokes thrown in there for the more... ahem... mature viewer (okay, older, not necessarily more mature!). For example, in today's episode, D. W. and Sue Ellen venture into Muffy's room of old toys, and in the frame with D. W. you can clearly make out an old-fashioned sled behind her named (what else?) Rosebud. I cracked up when I saw that... how priceless! What other kid's show would have something like that?

I'm not feeling nearly so carefree right now. I just finished a Calculus mock exam (shudders at memory of gradients, Newton-Raphson, vectors, statistics, etc... feeling quite confident that I am now scarred for life), and now I'm working on an energy efficiency project for Physics (shudders again). After that, I have to write a media script for Music and three prose commentaries for English. Don't all of those things just sound incredibly hard? They're not really as bad as they sound (though they're not exactly a stroll in the park, either)- they're names are practically villainous *cue Vader march here*.

My conscience is getting the better of me, so I shall return to my work. Before I go, though, I have to point out a new link I've added to my reads: Heart of a Poet. I just happened upon this incredibly well-written blog yesterday (well, it was really late, so it was technically today *LOL*), and I was blown away by the talent for weaving words that this girl has. Plus, she's not just a poet, she's also a girl with witty observations and various allusions ("Hurrah! Have date to senior prom and am therefore not social pariah as feared." I'm with you on that one! *grin*). Definitely worth a visit.

Do you ever have the feeling where you think of all the things you have to do, cringe and want to climb into your pajamas and hibernate until all the scary things have gone away? That's how I feel right now. I have all my "to do" things and papers piled around me, as well as a horde of windows open on the computer, and I'd really like nothing better than to yell "Bleah to you all!" and run and hide. Okay, so I won't do that.... still, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Then again, is that anything new? Same old song, really.

So what is new? Well... I got back some pictures today, and an "artsy" picture that I took of my birthday roses turned out really well! I was so happy- perhaps I have a new hobby (after May, I promise!)?

Also, I got my latest issue of Inkblots Magazine on the weekend, and I devoured it! :) This issue was called "Print to Reel", and dealt with the upsides (and downsides) of making books and plays into films. I absolutely adore Inkblots... I only wish I had discovered it sooner.

I found out that the next issue of Inkblots will be about The Lord of the Rings- woo hoo! In honour of this, here are some LotR cuties I found at the Dollz New Hangout:
Frodo   Legolas   Sam

Aren't they the sweetest things? Also in the LotR vein- I love Angels and Elves, a comprehensive and engaging site by Charity Bishop of Charity's Place. Both sites are definitely worth a visit!

Okay, this feels really weird... I just did my first archive, and the front page is so empty now! I'm missing all the old junk, just like I'm missing my Extended Essay. Yes indeed, you did read that right: my Extended Essay has been mailed! It's well on its way to Brussels by now, out of my hands and out of my life!

Monday was a crazy day: my advisor called at 7:45 am so that I could keep on making changes (the "final" copy I'd emailed him the night before didn't turn out to be very final, after all). I was working at home, then at school, from 8:00 am to about 2:00 pm, completely on tiny, idiotic revisions that felt useless (but I knew would cost me marks if I didn't change them). Anyway, I managed to get it printed off (for what, the 20th time?), despite at least three teachers breathing down my neck, and a classful of noisy students. It was insane... but it's done! Done! I still can scarcely believe it!
