I am against homework, probably like everybody in this class.  Well, I am not totally against homework, because without it we wouldn't be as smart as we were now.  The reason I am against homework is because of projects.  I am fine with one-day assignments but long-term assignments is where i usually mess up.  Also, I agree along with many other experts, that we should extend school rather than assign more homework.  If you are assigned a lot of homework and don't understand any of it, what will you learn?  If school was extended by one hour that would probably increase our intellectual abilities a lot because the teachers will have time to go over our homework and explain to us more.  We would get a lot more done this way.  Take Thomas Jefferson High School for example, at the end of the day they have an extra hour to go anywhere in the school you want.  I think this is the reason why people who go there are so smart.  So  homework is like an issue with two political parties, both wanting to reach the same goal but each one with different ways of achieving them.

Just because kids hate homework, that doesn't mean it is all bad.  Certain types of homework like chapter reviews will help a student review the entire chapter and summarize it just like this executive summary.  Also by stimulates the mind and provides extra practice for students, it helps students gain a further understanding of the material that was presented  during the school day.  It is kind of like fuel for a fire, if you stop feeding the fire, it eventually will die down just like you will eventually forget information.  If you refer to the
chart in my data section, you can see how the amount of time spent on homework affects their test grades.  It shows that students in elementary and middle school's test grades don't increase substantially if they do more homework but they should not think that this means students shouldn't do homework.  At least some homework is required to get good grades.

Now many experts have argued whether homework should even exist!  In fact, in Oakland, California at Beacon Day School homework has been banned for students in lower grades.  The private school says that students don't understand material enough to benefit from it much.  According to a
poll taken by CNN in my bibliographical  section 41% out of 965 people (which is 399) believe that homework is not beneficial to students.  If I were the principal of a school I would first make a rule so that the teachers must do all the homework and projects assigned and not just make one for an example.  This way I think it will be easier to tell if they are overloading their students.  That's what I would do, so if you have any comments, suggestions, or constructive criticism please sign my guestbook.
