As a supplement to play, I have made the Civ89 Technology Tree and Civ89 Unit Chart. The technology tree is a flow chart of all of the technologies in the default scenario, while the unit chart gives detailed information about every unit in the default scenario. The DOC files can be opened with Microsoft Word or with OpenOffice.org, free office software, but there is some data loss when opening the Technology Tree with OpenOffice.org.
