He's only twenty-four and hasn't been out of work since he appeared with Gael Garcia Bernal in the movie, Y Tu Mama Tambien. (Which was nominated for an Oscar in the category for Best Original Script)
He played a lover of Salma Hayek in Frida and was employed next to Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall in Open Range, with upcoming movies, such as Criminal, with George Clooney and Terminal, with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg .
He was already a talented Mexican actor, schooled from twelve years of wroking on soap operas, such as 'El Abuelo Y Yo', 'El Premio Mayor, 'El Amor de mi Vida', y ,La Vida en El Espejo', though today he's performed in such stage productions as, 'Las Obras Completas de William Shakespeare'.
With one foot in the United States and the other in Mexico, we interview him in the airport of Los Angeles, an hour before he takes a plane that will bring him back to Mexico. "I'm going away to have a month of vacation", he tells us. "But I have to work again already." One notices him very naturally, Hollywood has not stolen the humility from him and though he's on the verge of taking a plane, he's feet are supported firmly in the ground, while learning to 'dance' in time of reputation.
How did you react when you met such big stars as, Kevin Costner, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Robert Duvall, or Steven Spielberg for the first time?
-They are people whom I have admired and respected very much, because from them i can learn a lot. But I try, myself as an actor, to not concentrate so much on what they mean. There is a whole world of good actors.
And when it is you on the other side, when it is Luna whom they admire? Do you like that reputation?
-There are two types of reputations. One is the one that comes from your work, which fills me with pride and that I am always grateful. Another reputation, is the one that comes from scandel or the parts that have to see nothing with work. That one, it is the reputation that does not make me proud. Everything is opposite.
What is your ideal in a wife?
-Someone that's intelligent, surprises me, likes to amuse herself, and has her own life. I like independent people, people that don't need you to be happy about themselves. It's better to keep away from that. I want to say, that you should have your own life and share it with me.
What, more outsiders?
- I sort of miss the disorder of Mexico City. Here, in EU, everything has signs. It takes the initiative from the people. The meals are also very strage... I do like the oaxaquena and the seafood of the north.
How does it feel to lead a mammoth production of Hollywood?
-It's a big responsibility, but it also is recognition for what I have been doing in my career and my life. It is necessary to enjoy it, but it is also the same thing to do a movie in any part. For me, movies are the smae thing, no matter what they cost.
But don't you feel anymore responsibility for being the continuation of a movie such as, Dirty Dancing? That marked a generation in the style of Saturday Night Fever?
-The truth is, i don't feel any more responsibility or any less. Yes, it is a fact that more people are going to go see this movie, because it goes away to on in the whole world. But in the end it is always the same responsibility to do a movie and more when it touches you in a stellar role where you load a history in to two hours.
How different is this version of Dirty Dancing?
-It is the history if an impossible love between two young people, one Cuban and the other American, and it brings music and dance. It happens in Cuba, circa 1958.
How was it that they offered you the movie?
-I suppose that they saw Y Tu Mama Tambien. They are also the same producers as Frida and they recommended me for this movie.
Have you watched the first Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze?
