Meet our Team: Linh M. Le
Fortunately, I have always enjoyed being part of fundraisers or collecting supplies to send back to Vietnam or any country whose population is underserved. I want to specialize in either psychiatry or general medicine to continue doing as much as I can to help underserved populations in different countries lead healthier lives.
I volunteered for about five years in two different hospitals, Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and INOVA Fairfax Hospital. During that time I have come in contact with many �culture clashes� where a patient felt their physician was being disrespectful due to different cultural beliefs or customs. From this, I have learned that being a physician requires more than just knowledge and medical experience; it also requires a vast amount of cultural awareness. I am greatly interested in City of Joy 2003 because it is a unique opportunity for me to learn about a new culture and gain exposure to alternative ways of practicing medicine.
If City of Joy 2003 is going to be primarily working in a village, then I would like to work for three weeks and have a week for vacation to also experience the city. However, I would not mind working the entire stay if I am stationed in the city. Although I am willing to work in any discipline available, I would like to work with any doctors who are in general medicine or psychiatry. If not, I am also more than happy to work in one field for the entire stay. And last of all, I very much look forward to participating in this program, and would like more information on the financial requirements of the program.
