| Alison first became aware of international health a few years ago when, as an undergraduate student, she was participating in an exchange program at the University of Kuopio in Kuopio, Finland. As luck would have it, the year she was there coincided with the year that the General Assembly was held at a nearby university. She was allowed to participate in some of the G.A. events and organization. She learned some about international health program and more importantly she met many incredible students from all over the world that were all inspired to make a difference. | ||||||||||||
Alison does not have an incredible amount of experience with health care in India, but she has had some applicable experiences in other areas. During her undergraduate years, she helped facilitate student exchanges as well as acclimate foreign students to American culture. She has also been involved in the leadership of events with the Physicians for Human Rights and AMSA at the Medical College of Virginia. The main events have been bringing attention to U.S. involvement in Iraq, landmines and currently she is working on an AIDS event. Alison has always wanted to be involved in international health programs, and although she cannot be part of the trip in Summer 2003 because she is in a MD/PhD program, she has volunteered to help us develop the City of Joy Medical Education and Relief project. |
