Frequent & Common Questions
Yard Waste

Branches, bushes, etc will be picked up three weeks in the spring and three weeks in the fall.  They will also be picked up after storms.  We are allowed to burn these.

Grass clippings & leaves we are no longer allowed under DNR rules to burn these as a city.  No composting by the City has been decided as well.  Our current garbage disposal service has notified us as well that they will no longer pick these up either.  We are in the process to find other solutions.  Currently, you can create your own compost pile or haul them to the landfill for disposal yourself.
If the title is highlighted in the following colors it tells you the status of that topic:

RED - still in review - no permenant solution.

Yellow - close to resolution

Green - Final decision.  No further discussion.
ATV's & Snowmobiles
The following connection helps define the rules that must be followed to operate these vehicles in the City of Atkins.  We are getting some clarification on some of the rules and will add those to here when we get them.  Hope this helps.   Per the DNR officer Bob from Tama County no city ordinances need to be drafted or amended since this is all covered under State Law.
