God's Will and Kingdom Practices
1st December 2002
Text: Colossians 1:9-14Introduction:
- Over recent weeks we have considered many things; God has allowed us an insight into who we are and how we are meant to be.- basic practices of the Kingdom: the Word, worship, prayer, fellowship and making disciples.
- attitude with which we put those practices into effect
- pride - doing things our way,
- humility - doing things God's way. We have learned that we need to let go of our pride, bias, prejudice and our disposition to trust ourselves. Putting the practices in place with a spirit of humility necessitates us losing control - letting go of the obsession to get our lives under control, to be masters of our own destiny. We can only effectively see God's purposes for our lives come to pass as we surrender that control to Him.
- We need to put His principles into practice - little by little, line upon line, digging ever deeper, bedding ourselves onto the Rock, fixing our foundations firmly upon Christ, so that when the floods of life come bursting upon us, whether in judgement, cleansing, deliverance or blessing, we will stand. As Paul said to the Ephesians: "And after you have done everything, to stand". The way of pride, the determination to do things our way, is the way of building on the sand; hearing the words and commands of Christ but choosing not to put them into practice ensures that when those floods come (and surely they will) our work will be destroyed.
- What is this all about? I believe that this is part of that which Christians are always seeking and desiring to walk in, viz. the Will of God.

Conclusion:
- It is God's will that we put the principles of the Kingdom into practice in obedience to Christ with a spirit of humility, to see His Kingdom advancing and His Church built so that the Gates of Hell will not prevail against it; to prepare a Bride, free from spot, wrinkle and blemish, that is fit for His Son, Jesus Christ.
