A Brief History of the "City of Joy"
After many years of living abroad, Colin and Nicola Walmsley returned to the UK to plant a church. In seeking God's direction they decided to plant into Dalton as this was a central point for the Furness peninsula - the area in which they wanted the church to minister.
After meeting in a home in Barrow for 6 months, they moved up to Dalton in March 1997. The first venue was above a pub in a hotel, but this soon became untenable as the owners did not want the church making too much noise! The church then moved to the Drill Hall, in the centre of town, and has been there ever since.
The question always asked was, "Why another church?", to which the reply must always be, "How many unsaved are out there?". The church was planted to provide further testimony of the new covenant in every village, town and city, and "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
