Karl's Tunes

These are the result of noodling around with ideas on my midi setup. They will only sound as good as your sound card's midi translator, but you should get the basic idea of how they go. Some are just the melody, and others have some space where I noodled around with some solo ideas (some complete, some incomplete) to see how the song as a whole might sound (particularly those songs where the solo section is different somehow from the head).

Morgan Memorial Goodwill Strut -- Just the head. My latest tune. A friend referred to it as a "gloomy derelict strut". We usually play it a bit faster than it is here.

Lullaby of Station Street -- Just the head. Done to the changes of "Lullaby of Birdland"

Terrasse Royale -- Flamenco inspired... deliberate attempt to write a tune in Phrygian mode, though it slips into Aeolian sometimes. Named after the hotel in Montreal I was staying at when I conceived it.

Yulinka -- Happy Rhythm-changes bebop tune.

Regrets -- 3/4 time tune done to chord changes adapted from the Beatles' tune "Because"

Rozzie Square -- Minor blues thing in G

Guilty Pleasures -- Blues in E-flat; named after a defunct coffeehouse in Roslindale

Locksley Road -- B flat Blues written over a funky bassline.

Sunday Afternoon -- My first tune. Started as an idea for a rock song. I went back a year or so later and added the harmony line -- played here on the flute track (which, in my humble opinion, makes the song, not counting the fun chord changes).

Other Tunes
These are tunes that I didn't write, but recorded on the midi setup and put here anyway.

Spirit of Life and "I Am That Great and Fiery Force-- Unitarian Universalist Hymns that I think are pretty.

Solace -- Scott Joplin tune featured in the movie "The Sting"
