The oldest excavated lake in the city came into existence even before Hyderabad was built.Ibrahim Qutb Shah had the lake excavated in 1578,witha bund on the eastern side.Hussain Shah Wali, considered a Miracle man,was the architect of the lake that has been named after him.A Darga in his name stands at the Secunderabad end of the Tank Bund.A large monolithic statue of the buddha has been erected on a 'Rock of Gibraltar'in the centre of the lake.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has a host of boating facilities on the lake, including the prestigious Bhagmati and Bhageerathi luxury cruisers. Both are ideally suited for get-togethers and meetings and Bhagmati has a beer bar-cum-restaurant.

The picturesque lake unites the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad like a wedding ring.In the middle of the lake in the "Rock of Gibraltar" rises the statue of buddha, like a colossus. On one side of the lake is the Necklace Road, which indeed twinkles like a necklace. On the others side is the Tank Bund, that narrates the history of the Andhra Pradesh in granite through the imposing statues of men and women, who have done their motherland proud.Dottingthe lake on all sides are parks shimmering with greenery and bustling with life under the glitterand glory of city lights.
