Purge of the Maho Cult in the Leatherworker’s Quarter

                   February 2007 Session

Hida Tanashi was deeply troubled when the new member of his diplomatic entourage, Hiruma Azami, brought him news of a Bloodspeaker cult in the Leatherworkers Quarter.  He immediately he set out to notify members of the council and inform them of the plans to deal with them. Hida Tanashi contacted the Crane and gave them a report on what was going on.  Next, Tanashi spoke with the Lion members about the Maho cult.  Tanashi and Azami explained to the Lion what they intended on doing.  Azami was going to spearhead the attack as Tanashi created a perimeter to ensure no one escaped. Upon hearing this plan Matsu Roshu volunteered to join Azami in spearheading the attack while Matsu Ming Xiong would stand by to advise Tanashi and order in Lion troops if the raid failed or needed reinforcements.

After a quick blessing from some Kuni Shugenja that had accompanied Azami, the Crab forces moved quick out the south gate and surrounded the cluster of buildings that housed the cult.  The peasant archers took up defensive locations nearby while Matsu Roshu and Hiruma Azami lead the Crab bushi in their arrests.  They were careful to capture those that surrendered and save their fury for the lightly armed cultists that resisted.  Throughout the process Roshu was encouraging and inspiring the Crab samurai causing them to fight much more effectively then they would have thought possible..  Meanwhile on perimeter Hida Tanashi once again demonstrated his finesseless style of generalship.  Despite is relative inexperience, Matsu Ming Xiong was able to politely suggest actions that blunted the worst of Tanashi’s military decisions.

After capturing a few cultists they learned that the cult leaders were up in the attic of the buildings and quickly headed off.  While the Crab samurai held off the remaining cultists a the few pathetic undead they had risen, Matsu Roshu and Hiruma Azami quickly made for the attic to come upon two Maho users gathering what they can of their foul research before attempting a futile and cowardly escape. Two undead creatures stood between the Maho users.  With a mightly roar Roshu advanced.  With mighty fury he cut one down one of the creatures in half, and then defeated the second undead creature by beheading it.  Their vicious claws tore vicious wounds upon Roshu, but the Matsu Berserker would NOT FALL.  Azumi finished off the one Roshu had cut in half and then turned towards the two Maho users. Azami was able to bring down one of the Maho users, and with the help of Roshu, the second surrendered. Both of the Maho users were taken alive of questioning though one was badly injured.

Once the raid was over the Crab bushi and their peasant archers made a point to thank both of the Matsu for their excellent leadership.  The general impression among the Crab forces was that while they could have won this on their own, without the Lion assistance many more would have been injured or killed in this raid.  As it was the losses the Crab forces was very light and it appeared no one had escaped their net.  It seemed as though the most injured person in the battle was Matsu Roshu.  With numerous hits and wounds he walked out with more energy than men half as injured as him.  The Court Shugenja Isawa Noboyuki would later spend a few minutes healing all the numerous wounds he had suffered.
