House Rules

Below is a list of House Rules that are unique to his LARP.  As the LARP matures this list will adjust to new realizations and attitudes.  A strong attempt will be made to make all changes reasonable and to a minimum.

Two Sessions to Finalize Characters:  Because people are frequently unfamiliar with the rule system or need some extra time to round out their character, players will have two sessions to get “refunds” on their advantages, disadvantages, and skills purchased at creation.  They may also purchase new advantages and disadvantages under the rules for creation.  At the beginning of the third session they can no longer make changes to their disadvantages (without Storyteller approval and IC justification), and must pay the normal double cost for new advantages.

School Skills Ranks Must Equal School Rank:  In order to keep character in line with their schools to some degree, they can not go up a school rank until the skills they were taught by the school (“school skills”) are equal to their new rank.  For example the school skills for a member of a Kuni Shugenja School would be: Calligraphy, Defense, Kenjutsu, Lore (Shadowlands), and Meditation.  The extra unspecific skills taught by the school are not school skills.

Skills and Traits Can Change by 2 at the Most:  For sake of realism, a character can change a specific skill or trait by 1 or 2 ranks per session.  So a person who stored up a lot of XP could increase his Void from 2 to 4, Strength from 2 to 4, and Intelligence from 3 to 5, but he can’t change his Strength from 2 to 5.  This rule does not apply for the first 2 sessions when the person is still finalizing their character.

Extra Experience for Character Background:  Extra experience will be given to PCs that turn in a character background, preferably electronic.

Extra Experience for New Characters for Old Players:  Character lost is probably inevitable.  In order to reward regular players, they may take 1/3 of the experience they earned on their prior from play and bringing new players, and apply it to their next character.

IC Romantic Relationships between PCs:  Flirting with other PCs IC can be confusing and sometimes disrupts role-play.  If someone wants pursue an IC romantic relationship with another PC they must inform and ask the other Player if this alright.  If they are not interested in that type of roleplay then players are to avoid pursing such a direction in their roleplay.  Also while talking to the other Player about this type of roleplay, you should both set up boundaries on how far it can go.  PCs are allowed to do some harmless flirting IC or perform some romantic gestures, but if they are going to repeatedly flirt with same person or want to go to the next level they should immediately pause to discuss the details of this IC relationship while OOC.  NEVER ASSUME THAT BECAUSE YOUR IC FLIRTING IS GOING WELL THAT YOU CAN SKIP OVER THE OOC DISCUSSION!!!  NO TOUCHING UNTIL YOU KNOW IC BOUNDARIES!!!  It is alright to pursue IC relationships with NPCs played by storytellers, just keep touching to a minimum.

Minimal Touching:  Try to keep touching others to a minimum unless you have their express prior permission.  Also maintain a respective personal space.
