Battle for Southern Ryoko Owari Toshi

            December 2006 Session

Hida Tanashi, the impromptu general, showed his skill at rallying troops and amassed a small army of peasants and ronin to help clean the city of Ryoko Owari of undead.  His forces followed a trail of fleeing peasants to its source near to docks.  A force of undead samurai had organized were systematically culling the city to feed a Flesh Oni.  While Tanashi showed brilliance in organizing the army, his tactics were uninspired and brutish when he actually employed them against the undead.  He merely ordered his men on in waves with seemingly no thought for strategy.  Three skilled samurai spearheaded an assault on the undead.  Doji Kazo and the ronin leader Ichiro helped to open a path through the forces of undead before they succumbed to their wounds.  The surprise hero of the battle was Isawa Noboyuki.  His spells helped finish opening a hole in the lines of the undead and then he faced and defeated the oni single handily by swinging a holy piece of jade at the beast.  Once the terrifying amalgamation of bodies was defeated, the peasant warriors rallied after this great victory and helped the finish off the undead.  Sadly the undead had already taken their toll on the ronin.  Several swordsmen and shugenja died and many more were wounded.  Doji Kazo and Ichiro were recovered before they could expire from their wounds.

FYI:  Flesh Oni are a ultimate crafted monstrosity of maho users.  The maho user captures the essence of several normal oni, melds them into one conflicted and confused consciousness, and then uses his pure strength of will to organize and bind this new consciousness to his whim.  The consciousness is then poured into a mass of living victims and then semi-ritually killed.  The demonic consciousness consumes part or all of the fleeing souls of the sacrifices and uses energy to animate the empty husks.  From this point on the Flesh Oni is self sufficient, needing only an occasional victim to maintain its cohesion.  If the Flesh Oni is left to its own ends or ordered to it will gorge itself.  After it kills its victim and feeds on its soul, they will graft the new corpse to its present mass, growing larger and stronger with each victim.  Its appearance is vaguely humanoid with obvious features, but its mass with frequently have the odd limb, genitals, body hair, or face sticking out of its body.  As it grows larger more and more of these patches occur.  Various reliable accounts claim to have encountered flesh oni’s over 50 feet tall after the gored on helpless small towns, some questionable accounts claim that they can get to be 100 feet tall.  Most stable maho users do not let their pet flesh oni’s over 20 feet tall.  As they get larger they tend to gain independence.  A flesh oni left to his own will eventually fell drawn to the Shadowlands.  No one is sure what happens to them once they are there, since none have ever come out again.  THIS INFORMATION IS OOC KNOWLEDGE UNLESS YOU MAKE A IC CHECK!!!!
