| ~ ~ ~ two weeks later ~ ~ ~ I sat down on a chair in the mall caf� as I held a hot mug of herbal tea in my hand. taisan had lectured me on drinking it regularly. she said it would help with my recovery. I brought the mug to my mouth and took a sip. It had a very bitter taste like grass. Even though I hadn�t tasted grass. I figured grass would had probably tasted like this. But I was amazed and impressed that taisan knew a lot about different types of herbs. �jay� mega call my name I looked up to see him coming up the stairs to the caf� �What is it� I asked questionably realizing the anticipation in his voice �I have some news about your brother� �What you found him� I asked eagerly �you could say that. You remember when I said someone had been using our systems for graphic and special affects� �yeah. what has that got to do with ved� �He was that person� �what it can�t be� �I�ve been doing some surveillance around the hotel and ram had another camera installed he told no one about. Probably installed to make sure no went in that room. I think that�s where he and zoot had their little meetings� �yeah but why was ved using the system� I was clearly confused �I�m getting to that part. salene came to see me today. She mentioned that she had spotted someone who looked like ved when she was in the market place. She had followed him to a deserted street and you wouldn�t guess who his company was� �Who� �Ebony� mega said coolly �Ebony� my stomach did a flip flop hearing her name again. What was she doing here. I had thought she had left with zoot forever. But what really got me was what ved was doing with her �Why�s ved with ebony� �From what salene told me it seemed that they where together�. �What. What do you mean together� a feeling of betrayed washed over me �She said he wore a loco jacket with their logo on it, it seems that he�s joined their little clan� I remained silent confused, stunned still. So ved had joined the loco�s. He must have known that zoot was the one who shot me. then again why would he care ebony didn�t. �They left soon after in a limo she said that they were heading for the outskirts of the city towards shore side vale� mega continued I remained silent. My throat was dried what was going on. I had already lost ebony, and the only thing keeping me alive giving me strength each day was too find my brother and now he had joined with her and zoot. It was like they were all laughing at me. I�m such a fool �Jay� I looked up to face mega again �I think there planning something� �What do you think there planning� I asked wanting mega�s view �Nothing good. word on the street is that ebony and ved have rallied the demon dogs to work for them. Our list of allies grows thin� �They must be pushing up their numbers for a takeover, like the chosen did,� �Must be. What baffles me is why �zoot� would go to all that trouble to fake his death it doesn�t make sense� �Interesting point� I said standing up and pacing up and down the caf� �you know I had a feeling that something big, dark was going to occur, you know before I got shut� �I guess we all get that feeling from time to time� mega said dismissively �Maybe� I replied �Whatever there planning we can�t let it happen. I�ve worked too hard with the techno�s getting this city up and running with electricity and water. Whatever zoot has planned I don�t think it involves us he�ll probably come for us next. Then the mall rats� he finished in a serious tone �You mean wipe out all his opposition� �Exactly we have to be prepared. That means I need you ready jay. Are you� I nodded �I�m ready� I watched mega walk back down the stairs and out the mall. A few seconds later I sat back down and attended to my cold tea. I laid my hands on the table and just stared at my palms. Memories came flooding back from the past. Before I became a techno. When I was with grace. My eyes became watery as I remembered how, young, gentle and precious she was I didn�t get to appreciate her enough cause she was taken away from me so suddenly. So quickly just because of a little cut. I quickly wiped away the teardrop that escaped from my eye. She was the only reason that I joined the techno�s. I saw the opportunity to make a better world and help more people like her. I almost forgot about her because of ebony. Ebony. Instead of getting the usual pain of betrayal and lost love I got when I thought of her I felt anger. Pure anger. Of what she had done to me her and zoot. Have how I let her walk over me and laugh in my face when I told her I wanted to be with her. Ebony had made her choice so had ved. But now I was going to make mine. I wiped my face. I had become a joke, a laughing stock I wasn�t respected as I once was. When I walked through the hotel the techno�s look at me like a fallen man. I had to get my self up. I made a promise to myself to make the world a better place. I owed it to grace my true friend, the one I could always trust, my love. I got up suddenly and ran down the stairs of the mall to find mega. We had work to do. ~ ~ ~ �So why are you with the infamous zoot� ebony asked ved. they were seating in the back of the limo. Still surveying the city. The vehicle had become her and veds home as they were always travelling in it. But she didn�t mind any chance to be far away from zoot and spike was good. And she had found a little friend or should she say ally in ved. She had realised he wasn�t the mouthy younger brother of jay like everyone made him out to be, he was smart funny, a but too rude at times but she guessed she was like that. �I can ask you the same thing. The last I heard was that you and jay were running off into the sunset� he started but saw me scrawl �But I guess things change� �Yes they do. But I can ask you the same question. Why are you with zoot� �Haven�t you heard� ved said giving her a mischievous smile �I�m his number 1� �What� �I said I�m zoots�� �I heard what you said. But why� she was confused �Why not. ram and his pathetic minions were losing their hold on the city people were rebelling. All that crap with the game just brought unnecessary trouble� �Is that why� �Isn�t that enough� �Maybe. I just thought that you would�� �What go live with those rats in a mall� he gave a short laugh � I see you haven�t lost your sense of humour ved� she smirked �but you know what zoot did don�t you� �You mean what he did to my brother� he sighed hard �Well I guess that�s life� That�s life ebony repeated in her head. That�s life�. she knew ved and jay never saw eye to eye but for him to dismiss him like that. it was shocking, and to work for zoot as well that was just putting the icing on the cake. But then again she guessed she could relate to him. she never cared much for her sisters either. She decided to question him further �And your still willing to work for him� �Yes don�t sound so shocked ebony� ved grinned �I wouldn�t call this work just an opportunity until something better comes along. anyway its not like I�d never see my brother again� �What are you deranged� she looked at him wondering if he had gone insane �Jay�s dead, gone, capote forever. Or do you mean your going to join him in the afterlife how sweet� she gave him a sarcastic smile �ha ha ebony� he said giving a wry smile �I�m not planning to die for a very long time to much people to pay back right� �like who� she asked curiously �does it interest you� �I�m just curious� �How curious� �Very� ebony said leaning forward in her sit and closer to ved who was seating opposite. �you know ved me and you aren�t that different. I mean we are the youngest siblings in our families so much pressure for us to be as good as our elder siblings. But look how quickly they fell. were better than them� ved leaned in closer to her �I wouldn�t disagree with that. but I have a feeling your going somewhere with this� ebony gave a coil smile �ahh quick on the game I like that. can I trust you ved� �as much as you can trust yourself� what a smart ass she thought as she gave him a smile �then I guess it�s little� �hah� he laughed �I guess you can trust me for now what do u have in mind� �spike� she almost whispered leaning back in her seat. She looked up to see the driver he was concentrating on the road. She pressed the button to roll the window shielding her and ved from his view. �spike� ved repeated baffled �what has he got to do with this� �everything� she replied rather loud. These past two weeks she had done everything not to be alone with spike. The fact that he was still alive was like a curse to her. Working with zoot was one thing but spike was something she couldn�t bear. He brought back to many painful memories and he�s sick smiles were blinding. �ebony� ved said snapping her out of her thoughts �look ved� she began �I don�t plan to work with zoot for long� �no� said ved unsure �no. I mean there up to something he and spike. they haven�t told us the whole plan. And from the looks spike gives you I say you�re not to his liking� �hah� ved clocked on. His grin widening �so you h noticed those stares as well. I thought he was attracted to me. Well who wouldn�t be� ebony rolled her eyes �I thought it was because of zoot. That little spiky was jealous cause he lost his daddy. but I noticed that he always gave it to me when you were beside me. Sees you have an admire� �o.k. ved you can stop your little love story now� she said angrily any thought of spike looking at her was sickening. �what I meant is why they would had gone so far as to plan their own deaths� �what do you think they�re planning� he asked seriously �I know he wants to take over the city. But there still something else I can feel it. I mean he has guns now. guns your stupid laser thingies don�t compare to that� �hey I helped design those� �at least you could sort of run away from them, maybe survive if you got shut they weren�t always set to kill. But with guns how do we survive that. There are no doctors around. all those entrepreneurs that think they are idiots. And I know for sure that zoot doesn�t completely trust me. He�ll get rid of us as soon as his done with us� �what do you suppose we do then� ebony smiled �I�m glad you asked that. but before I continued are you with me� �as much as I can be� ~ Earlier that day ~ �Jay where are you off to in such a rush� amber said smiling at jay who was on his way to the hotel. They where just a few feet away from the hotel. �Amber� jay smiled pleased to see her �I�m on my way to see mega� �Arrhh so he told you� amber said knowingly �Told me what� jay asked baffled �About ebony and ved� she replied �Yeah how did you know�? �Salene� amber continued. �She said mega had gone to see you so what are you going to do� �About what� �Call me naive jay� amber said stepping closer to him so there was only a few centimetres between them �but I don�t think you�d be rushing around if you didn�t want to get something planned� �Ok maybe but what�s your point� jay said not wanting to give anything away �I want to help� Jay smiled �how do you suppose you�d do that� �Hey there more to this girl than meets the eye� �I can see that� jay said grinning at her. Amber blushed jay noticed and quickly closed his smile. He became embarrassed �Well � erm look I�ve got to go talk to mega� �Yeah I�ve got to get back to my son� Jay gave her a sympathetic look �What�s that look for� amber asked questionably �Have you got any news about bray�? �No luck� amber said trying to look bright �Look I� I�ll have mega see if ram had him taken to any of our camps� she remained silent. He noticed the sad look on her face and put a friendly hand on her left cheek, she immediately looked up to meet his eyes and they held each others gaze for a minute �I�ll do whatever I can to amend the mistakes I�ve made� jay spoke finally �It wasn�t all your fault� amber said reassuringly placing her hand on jays hands which was still on her cheek. �You�re a good man jay,� she continued. �I could see that the first time we met. You didn�t know what ram was up to. And you proved yourself worthy when you went against him� �Thank you� jay said smiling at her �Anytime� amber said and she let go of jays hand. Jay hands lingered on her cheek then finally dropped it amber then turned to go to the mall. He watched her walk away and fled into the hotel. As he walked he began to feel guilty. There he was fretting over ebony and ved. While amber was alone with a baby to look after. He decided there that he�d do whatever he could to help her. ~ ~ Present time ~ ~ �Ebony, ved you�re late� said an unhappy zoot coming out of his villa as both ebony and ved got out of the limo. �We had some minor trouble with some city kids,� she answered �I take it you where discreet� she nodded as spike holding a medium size box dropped it down in front of them. Ebony and ved immediately peered inside it. The box was filled with various types of weapons mainly guns and knifes. Ved picked up a gun and looked back at zoot confused �what are these for� he asked �The raid� spike spoke up �what where taking them out already� said a shock ebony looking at zoot for answers. She knew zoot intended to wipe out his oppositions but she didn�t expect it so soon. She hadn�t even finished negotiating with some of the city tribes. She was beginning to understand why zoot needed her. He wanted a front man. Someone who could talk. Her obviously. But what about when her job was done would he still need her. She doubted that. �Is that a problem ebony?� said zoot a tinge of menace in his voice. �No I�m just surprised at the pace,� she answered quickly �Why do you want to wait forever?� he replied as she bent down to pick up a weapon. But stopped as spike threw her a gun. �Here for you especially� he said grinning as she caught the weapon. She sneered. She moved back from the box as some more loco�s came and all took a weapon. She and ved made their way back to the limo. �There up to something� ved whispered in ebony�s ear as they sat in the limo �tell me about it something doesn�t fe-� she haltered as spike came in the limo �don�t mind me� ved and ebony looked at each other grimly as spike smirked and sat opposite them. The limo began to move and they sped of back into the heart of the city. A couple of hours later the vehicle finally came to a stop. Ebony looked through the window the sun was beginning to set. She got out of the limo spike and ved in tow. She had cleverly averted here eyes away from spike throughout the journey. The drive was long and uncomfortable and she was glad to be out. She had to do something about him he knew he was getting to her it was only a matter of time before he did something. �Why are we here� asked ved as he took in the surroundings they where near some factories. Ahead of him was an abandoned warehouse the place was deserted. �Were waiting till its dark. Then we head out we want to be as surreptitious as possible you understand� he leered at ved They turned around as a black car came to a stop near them. the window wound down slowly revealing zoot. Ebony moved closer to the vehicle �spike will tell you the full plan� zoot spoke she nodded. He began to whine up his window �where are you going to,� she asked before it wound up fully. �Not staying for the party� �I have more important business to take care off� he replied and then continued in a low voice �Don�t mess up ebony no one leaves that hotel alive� he stared at her for a while before he indicated the driver to go. Ebony watched sceptically as zoots car drove off. There was something in that look he gave her. She turned back to ved and spike. Spike was giving her the same look. She walked towards the warehouse where some of the other locos had already been walking. There was about fifty of them here give or take. She guessed they had the upper hand in this battle as they had the element of surprise and the weapons where a massive help. She noticed that the hotel wasn�t that far from them. Ved came to her side. �so what did the almighty zoot say� he joked �nothing interesting but something is definitely up� she said taking a quick glance at spike �he definitely goes to night� �What spike are you crazy you can�t take him out� said ved quietly �watch me� she said bodily �How� �Ved� she said tapping him lightly on his cheek with her handy �haven�t you learned anything yet where going into a battle people get killed. She smiled widely at him. Ved stopped and looked at her enquiringly �ebony� he called out ~ ~ ~ �I don�t want to wait anymore� mega said turning his attention away from the computer �where not going to find any more information on these. There�re to good. I say we attack now� �Are you sure that�s wise�? Jay said sitting down on one of the seats in the computer room opposite mega. He had reach the hotel about a half hour ago, and he and mega had been discussing what the loco�s where up to. �Speaking briefly I guess that their plan is to take out the people with the most power. They have taken half of the most decent tribes to their side. Where next - then the mall rats� mega spoke �Do you think they�d actually care for the mall rats�? jay asked �With ebony�s involved I�d say they go for them with a bang� taisan said standing up from where she was seating joining in the conversation �So were agreed� mega asked both of them �Agreed� Jay and taisan said in unison �So what�s our plan of action�? Jay asked �Easy we wipe them out� taisan blurted out �He means how taisan� exclaimed mega �Emm we did have an advantage with our lasers, but they have guns now. I don�t know how many but they must have a whole stock of it� jay examined �What do you suggest�? Taisan asked �We�ll have to use the element of surprise� jay answered �I�ll get Hasely on to the details� mega added �Whose Hasely� jay asked? �Engineer he knows all those technical stuff. Took over veds position when he left� mega answered Jay nudged uncomfortably Mega sensed stiffness on the matter �What about ram� jay blurred out quickly �What about him� mega asked not sure where jay was going with this �He must have known about what zoot was planning. I think their planning more than just a take over� �Maybe. But what can ram do he�s frozen in virtual reality� �We can unfreeze him cant we� �Yeah� mega said unsure �but will he talk� �I�ll feed him some sob story about the techno�s not surviving without him when he answers my questions I�ll put him back� �Unlike you jay� mega said impressed �Well I have not been myself lately� he said sadly �If that�s it. I�m going to go down to see if I can �melt �him now� �right now� mega asked �No time like the present� �Fine I�ll send Hasely after all-� �He is the engineer� taisan finished as jay walked out of the room his destination the incubator room where ram was kept �What can I do� taisan asked �You can inform the mall rats of our plan in the making. I�m sure they�d be willing to help. We need as much people as possible� �At this time of the night� taisan asked surprised �Like jay said no point in hanging about� �I just thought we could use this time on other things� she said moving close to him. She flirtatiously licked her lips and moved her face close to his so that if either of them moved forward they�d touch �who knows when we�d have time for �us� again� �I�m sure lex would appreciate your time� mega said dismissively. Taisan smile disappointed unsure about his statement. She moved reluctantly from him �fine off to them mall I go� as she walked out of the room ~ ~ ~ �You lot round the sides� spike said to the militias �I�m going to go round the back. We meet in the middle. Take no prisoners� �Don�t have to tell me twice� ved said steadily �What about you� spike said turning to ebony, they where behind the old abandoned car park of the techno hotel. they where hiding behind the trees and dumped cars. it had just gone past midnight and it was pitch black. Only the moon gave a light, it shone directly above them just enough light for them to see each other. �I like to use the front door� ebony sneered �Fine� spike replied ignoring her sneer �We invade in 15 minutes� �How would we know when fifteen minutes is up? Its not like we carry watches or do you expect us to count 1. 2. 3-� ved smirked �Smart ass� spike breathed quietly under his breath �you�ll know when. You can�t miss the signal,� he said giving an evil smile in veds direction �So you are going to count,� ved grinned. Spike gave him a don�t piss me off look. Ved smiled to himself �he fancies� me he thought �What about the cameras� ved asked �There�s a 20 second interval between them. The front ones first then the back, I�m sure you can work out the rest� �I�m sure I can� ved said giving him a fake smile �Right in 15 minutes� spike spoke up to the rest of the group. Then signalled to the other troops to head to their spots. They began moving out �Oh spike� ebony called out after him �don�t get dead now� she smiled sweetly . Spike lingered at her smiling face; frowned and ran off Ok you lot know the plan as soon as that camera turns we have twenty seconds before it switches back� ebony said pointing to a camera on a pole in front of the hotel �we head to the front door. You two take out those two patrolling guards,� she said to some of the troop �Ok the camera�s turned� said ved �Move out quickly everyone� ebony rallied them on �19,18� ved said counting down �Quickly now� ebony whispered pushing everyone to run faster They quickly spurted towards the entrance of the hotel. They took out the two patrolling guards with ease. They knocked them to the floor �What are you doing you fool� ebony said pulling one of the troop down who was about to shoot the guards on the floor �you want to bring attention to ourselves no firing of weapons until our call time. We wait for the signal got it� The militia nodded. And some of the troops began dragging the unconscious bodies towards a bush near the side of the hotel. Then they ran back quickly to the entrance of the hotel where they all gathered out of the cameras sight �2, 1� ved finished. They all watch to see the camera turned back �Right everyone keep down. Quiet. We wait for the signal� ebony ordered breathing in hard from their little escapade �Ved can you get the door open� she asked �Just tell me when to turn the knob� ~ ~ ~ Jay felt the coldness of the glass coffin that now held ram. He�s body looked lifeless. He would had thought he were dead if not for the beeping of his heart pulses on the machine. �Weird isn�t it� a voice said form behind �You can say that again hasley isn�t it,� he said turning to look at the rather tall, built techno. �Mega sent me so you want me to defrost him� �That�s right. How long will it take�? �About 12 hours� �Ouch that long� �Yep it was easy frosting him he�s heart was cold already,� hasley said jokingly Jay didn�t laugh and hasley continued nervously �but defrosting him will take longer. It will take the sun to melt him,� Hasely laughed Jay kept it stern face �Emm 12 hours. I hadn�t anticipated that it would take that long� he continued �Where are you going? Hasely asked puzzled as jay began to head out of the room �I have things to do� ~ ~ ~ Ebony shook as she heard a bomb go off at the back of the hotel. �Well that�s some signal� she said surprised �Come on people move out take no prisoners. No one leaves this hotel alive�. Like clockwork they immediately marched inside the hotel and soon enough deleted some techno�s passing inside. Suddenly there were rays of lights passing everywhere. It was from the techno�s lasers. �Come on you people attack� ebony shouted And like a roar of lions the place was in an uproar. Ebony lost all her senses. She could only see smoke from fired guns and the colour lights the laser made. She hastily moved away from the battle. She had business of her own to attend. She went through the hidden passages in the hotel. She had been living there for a long time and knew all the quickest and best ways to get round the hotel. She could move about without being seen. �What the hell was that� jay said coming into mega office� �They�re attacking us� �Who� �The damn locos� he said pointing to the monitor systems. There he could see the battle going on downstairs �I underestimated them in how quickly they�d try to get rid of us� �Sh!t what�s our plan of action� �They�ve clearly out numbered us� mega sighed, �We go back to the stadium. I have been shipping some out equipment back there� �Since when� �Since ram demises, the stadium is far more easier to protect. Come on take anything of value with you. This place is collapsing. We�ve got to go� �Right� He and mega ran threw the corridors. Nearly getting hit by a bullet shot by one of ebony�s militia. Mega killed the person easily with his laser. �S*** ram� jay swore �Forget him he wouldn�t have been much use� �F*** hasley is still there� jay swore again �Fine I�ll get the buggy round to the back of the hotel meet me there� �right� jay said and mega ran the opposite way as he began running towards the basement of the hotel where hasley was. ~ ~ ~ Ebony came round the first floor of the hotel. It was quiet up there. The battle was downstairs. She spotted him the one she was looking for. The little worm. He was fiddling with something in the boiler closet �Spike may I ask what your doing� she asked coyly. He shook at the sound of her voice and she smiled happy that she had caught him off guard �Ebony my sweet. Shouldn�t you be leading a war�? He said turning to face her �Its in control we�ve clearly won the technos are over.� �Then I guess we should go down and celebrate� spike said closing the boiler door �What are you doing?� she asked walking in front of him. He was standing directly in front of the boiler door like he was trying to protect something. �Now wouldn�t you like to know�? He said stepping closer to her She move aside and walked round him to the boiler door and opened it �F*** spike. What the hell do you think your doing.� she said nearly screaming �Blowing up the hotel that�s what� he said innocently �You f�� she gasped �No need for that language� �This wasn�t part of the plan. The plan was to kill the technos. I wasn�t told about destroying the building� �So I forgot to mention it. Do forgive me,� said spike smiling widely �You piece of s*** you were going to kill us all. Me and the rest of the militias. You were just going to run out and watch us blow� �Ebony no� said spike in a mocking voice like she had hurt him �Of course I wouldn�t want to get rid of you. not without saying goodbye first� Ebony swung her fist to hit him. But spike dogged out of the way �Still slow ebony� he said laughing moving back towards the other wall �Dodge this� ebony said reaching for her gun. Spike did the same and they held it at each other. Eyes blazing full of hate. �Go on I dare you to� spike roared �The offer is so tempting I�ll take it� ebony said boldly clicking her weapon �go ahead� said spike. Ebony watched in disbelief as he dropped his gun. But she was going to be altered she�d take her opportunity. Immediately she pulled the trigger. �F***� ebony moaned nothing happen. She pulled the lock back and tried again. Still nothing happened. Ebony opened the hatch to see there were no bullets. She looked up to see spikes amused face laughing at her expense �Now ebony did you think that zoot and me could trust you with a live weapon. �You�ve been a naughty girl� he said grinning widely �I thought you would had been killed in the cross fire. I thought I would have missed the pleasure of seeing your face squirm when you realized that there were no bullets. But luck was on my court. And now I get the chance to say goodbye to you properly� Spike licked his lips picking up his gun. Ebony immediately began running towards the end of the hall. I ran as quickly as I can. I had to get out of the hotel, warn the others get ved out. My legs moved unbelievably fast. But I felt myself fall to the ground at the sound of a bullet being fired. I felt the impact of the bullet as it thread threw my bone burning its way through I gasped as I felt my bone contrast and gave out. And I fell painfully to the floor with a thud. I lay on the floor on my belly the bullet felt like a huge hot needle was being pushed in roughly through my bones. The pain I felt was unbelievable and I couldn�t stop tears rolling out my eyes. Tears from the pain. I reached for my ankle. Trying to hold back the blood. I sucked up my breath. And tried to pull myself together I still had to get out of the hotel. �Ha ha� spike laughed ebony lets see if you can get out of here in under a minute� I turned my head just in time to see spike jump out of the hotel window. I sat up and leaned on the wall. I began to pull myself up using the wall as support. I finally got up and began; making my way towards the window spike had climbed out from at the end of the hotel. I had to get out. As I dragged my bloody leg I counted down in my head. 50,49. Time was going fast. �Jay what�s happening� hasley said as jay ran into the room �Forget about ram� we got to get out.� �What�s happening �? �The locos are invading� jay said as they ran fast throw the corridors Hasely immediately picked up his pace. �Mega is at the back of the hotel waiting� �Shit� mega cursed himself as he quickly ran threw the hotel. He had left an important disk behind and had to go back and get it. He ran quickly through the corridors. He was about to make his way down the stairs when he saw a bloody path. Like someone was calling him he turned in that direction. And there he saw a limping figure heading towards the window. He walked quickly towards the person as he got close he heard counting, �20, 19� �Ebony� mega said realising who the person was �15,14� she choked out �What are you doing mega� asked baffled by her behaviour noting the huge wound on her leg. He felt sick as he saw blood pouring of her skin. But she still continued limping towards the end of the hall, he followed �We have to get out a bomb� ebony spat out Mega got hold of her as she was about to collapse �what do you mean a bomb� �10,9 the place is going to explode� ebony continued in pain Mega eyes grew wide. �That�s why you�re counting down.
