All Things Considered
Part Seven
The boys got to the gig half an hour early, which is fortunate since
they really needed to talk about what happened at Valeries house. At
least thats the impression Mike got when he discovered he was being
cornered on the bandstand by the other guys.
"What?" He asked as he replaced a string. "Shouldn't we be talking
about our song set?" Mike said as he looked for a pair of pliers.
Davy found the pair he was looking for, it was sitting next to him
the whole time. Mike looked at the tool as Davy handed it to him. "I knew it was there the whole time."
"Wow." Peter said after another minute of silence. "One of us is getting married."
"I know." Davy said. "Any of you blokes think it would be Mike to
take the plunge first?"
"Well it wasn't going to be you, you would have to whittle down the
amount of girls you're seeing from five to one." Mike said with a sly
grin. Davy fidgeted a little bit but he knew what his friend said was
right. "Micky came close but the last girl he was dating didn't think
it was a whole lot of funny when he keeps trying to cook her a rubber
chicken."
"It looks like the real thing!" Micky said laughing.
"And Peter, he's having the least fun of us." Davy said. "He can't
find a single girl."
"They're all dating you!" Peter said with a raised eyebrow. He shook
his head. "I think we had a point here." He said changing the
subject."
"Yea, we did." Davy said patting his friend on the back. "Mike is
the first of us to get married and that means one thing." Davy gave a
conspirital look to the other guys. Mike almost missed what he was
hinting at till he thought about it another second.
"It means that we're finally growing up. Becoming adults." Mike
nodded with a small smile on his face.
"No, Mike." Davy said looking at him. "I guess that other stuff too,
but it means a bachelor party!"
"Bachelor party?" Mike gasped. "Valerie would kill us. Or me. She
would kill you then me!"
"Every guy has a bachelor party." Micky said. "It'd be a lot of fun
and good way to let loose before the wedding." Micky picked up his
drum sticks. "Besides, it would be something to do. Valere is going to do all this wedding preperation, so we have to have something."
"Ok ok," Mike said holding up his hand. "But nothing crazy. The last
time we partied, we almost didn't make it out of Mexico."
"Thats the last time I carry a little old ladys luggage, thats for
sure." Davy said.
"I wonder what Val is doing now." Mike mused as they noticed the
audience sitting down near the front of the stage.
"Oh shes planning her wedding, shes having the time of her life!"
Peter said picking up his guitar.
Chris's Living room
"Somebody kill me." Valerie thought to herself as Chris showed her
numbers of clippings from her famous wedding book. Chris has this
wedding book of clippings from wedding magazines she had read over
the years. It had gotten quite thick, and it looked like it was ready
to burst all over the place. Whenever Valerie had seen Chris lugging
it around, she joked that it was almost time for a volume two. She
had no doubt she had a empty photo album all ready to go if she
needed it.
"That thing must weight ten pounds." Valerie commented out loud as
Chris flipped through the clippings.
"Andy said it might be twenty but I think hes exaggerating." Chris
said with a smile. She was in bliss. One of the things in life that
Chris was looking forward to was planning her friends wedding. The
planning she had expected to last at least six months would have to
take place in a much shorter amount of time: two weeks. One week and
six days to be exact.
"We wasted a lot of planning today with our goofing around." Chris
explained as she got out a notebook.
"What did we miss out on? We already have a location." Valerie said
ticking off things on one hand. "We just need dresses, tuxes and
food."
"And flowers!" Chris pointed out.
"I hate flowers." Valerie moaned.
"How can you hate flowers? You'd at least have to have a bouquet to
throw out to some lucky lady..."
"poor shmuck you mean." Valerie said under her breath. "The only
people besides us that will be there is my family, some of Mikes
family...once they find out that is...and whatever girls the guys are
dating right now."
"Wouldn't be it be neat if say Davys girlfriend..."
"...which one? He has a collecton of showgirls right now."
"if Davys girlfriend caught the bouquet?" A strange glow came to
Chris's cheeks. "I'd have another wedding to plan!"
"I think we created a monster." Valerie said as Chris's husband Andy
passed through the room with a bottle of anti-acid. Earlier in the
day Andy had large helpings of Davys chili and now was paying the
cost.
"We?" He cocked an eyebrow at her. "You're the one getting married.
This is your fault."
"Oooh." Chris said.
"What?" Valerie asked. She didn't like Chris when she was in strange
mood like this, she didn't know what to expect.
"This whole thing can't be official till you do one thing." Chris
said rubbing her hands together.
"What?" Valerie asked with an air of caution.
"You have to ask me to be matron of honor." Chris said putting her
hands on the table.
"Ah jeez." Valerie moaned while placing one of her hands on the side
of her head.
"Ask it!"
"Come on. Who else would I ask?" Valerie asked looking at Chris
Chris looked like she was going to explode. "Ok, all right. Chris
will you be my matron of honor?"
"Yes!" Chris said with the biggest smile Valerie had ever seen in her
life. The smile was big enough for two people to share. Valerie
couldn't help but let a little grin on her face.
"Fine, then be my matron of honor, starting tomorrow." Valerie said.
As Chris started to get a "but..." look on her face, Valerie stopped her with "Its a lot to process in one day. Not to mention I still
have to meet Mikes aunt. There won't even be a wedding if she doesn't like me."
"Fair enough." Chris said. "Just as well, I want to see if I can find
my old wedding dress. Maybe we can get two uses out of it."
Valerie rolled her eyes so far back in her head she thought she could
see through her hair. "Great." She got up off of her seat. "I'll see
you in the morning."
"Don't forget," Chris said. "If I pick out your dress you can pick
out my gown too."
"Really?" Valerie said with an evil grin on her face that her friend
couldn't see. "This could be interesting after all."
