We are joined at this time by a blonde haired woman and a dark
haired man with a hat. They are around the same age.
"I suppose you're wondering what’s up. You haven't heard from us
since that fun Vegas adventure." The blonde begins to speak. "I'm Valerie Parker. This man," she says pointing to the man with the hat. "is Mike Nesmith. Now..."
"Wait a minute," Mike stops her with a hand movement. "shouldn't we
tell them who we are?"
"Well if they have been reading what happens to us, then they
already know." Valerie points out.
"Yes, but you already said, it's been awhile." Mike points out.
Valerie casts Mike a look out of the side of her eyes. "Fine. Fine.
A recap. I've been unlucky in love for years. Assorted jerks and
morons who left me for other girls. This includes one who left me at
the alter..."
"...but can't seem to leave you alone. He has popped up twice...at
least while I've been around."
"Can I tell the story?" Valerie asked. Mike sighed. "I AM getting to
the good part."
Reassured, Mike sits up in his chair.
"Just as I was getting to where I thought I was going to become a
crazy single cat lady..."
"...and its a good thing," Mike says then adds in a stage whisper
"she hates cats."
"When I had gave up all hope I met Mike. It was love at first
sight." Valerie smirked as Mike rolled his eyes. "Okay it was loathe
at first collision. But given time that changed into something
more."
"Much more." Mike said. "Between breakups and pesky Irish men, we
had a good thing. It was so great that we unknowingly gotten married
to each other in Las Vegas, prior to some gigs my band, the Monkees,
had."
"Oh, a tip: make sure you order iced tea, and not Long Island Iced
tea." Valerie nodded, adding a little sage advice.
"By the by," Mike said, his strong Texas accent accompanying some
words. "the marriage turned to be illegal. Records, licenses, blah
blah."
"So I was back to being Valerie Parker, and that’s what we are here
to talk about." Valerie looked at Mike.
"The last couple of weeks." Mike looked back at Valerie. "So who’s
going to start?"
"You start this time. People reading this might think its all about
me instead of being about several other people. My friends, your
friends. Relatives." Valerie ran her hand over her face.
"Right. I'll start." Mike cleared his throat, and sat thoughtfully
for a second.
"Anytime you're ready." Valerie couldn’t hide the hint of laughter in her voice.
"I'm just waiting for the right mood to settle in." Mike sat for a
few more seconds. Valerie glanced at him. He shifted in his seat. "Okay, here I go."
