Orange Valley Intranet Search Engine

Category: Free or Almost Free

Cost: Starting $37.00

Abstract:

The Search Engine arrives as two components, an ASP script, and a separate .exe program that will spider the intranet and save the results in a database for the script to read. The search results will consist of a hyperlink based on the text between the title tags, and under this will be a short extract that includes (in bold) the search word found in the web page. The search engine will look for word matches within the entire document. It also generates a log file in simple text format that details all the searches.  This is a fairly primitive searching system, but that is what you get for $37.00.

Features:

There aren’t really many features because this is just a backend script that a company/person impalements with their current internal web portal/website.  It does very basic indexing and creates logs files based on what it finds.  The logs files are then searchable though whatever means the client sees fit.  It also has the ability to exclude certain pages from its searches, as long as you specify them to the spider.

Functional Uses:

Index a large amount of web pages on a web server and generate meta tags for those pages.  It will also create meta descriptions and title indexing.  Aside from the above mentioned items, there is nothing else the website tells you about the system.  This does not look like a good product to buy.
