After researching on the roots of Christmas, I have found more precise information in which to present! Of course the holiday known as Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Many arguements have ensued over the exact date, but the Roman Church chose the 25th of December as the official date and it stands that even today. Even so, the Christmas feast, or celebration of this day didn't surface on records until the 300s. It goes in conjuncture with the winter solace and the tale of Santa Claus evolved with the holiday as time passed. In the 1600s, the first Santa Claus came to be with Sinterklaas, the name for Santa Claus in Holland who came to America and gave gifts to children. |

Thenafter, in the 1800s, writers and artists began to glorify Santa, with a jolly air, the red suit, the reindeer and the sleigh! One writer, Clement Moore wrote in the 1820s the image of Kriss Kringle we know today, as did the Coca cola-cola company give a more current look of today's Santa in the 1900s. After centuries of incorporation of beliefs and interpretations, the present day St. Nicholas looks as the embodiment of childhood joy and dreams. Whether you celebrate it or not, this holiday has seeped into many facets or this world and so do traditions of it. Some include the hanging of mistletoe, the decorating of your Christmas tree, the holiday feast and such. As the tradition goes on, you may wonder last, where will the illusion of Santa Claus and the celebration of Jesus Christ go in the future? |
