DOGS OF WAR

During the Second World War, the Russian Army hoped to thwart advancing German Panzer divisions with the introduction of their new secret weapon, the exploding dog.
Many weeks were spent in training. Using biscuits and other tidbits as bait, dogs were taught to associate food with the underside of tanks. The plan was to tie bombs to the back of the dogs, who would then explode when crawling under enemy vehicles in search of a snack.
When put to the test, it was found that the dogs completely ignored German Panzers, having linked the notion of food solely with their own tanks. The Russians abandoned the project on day two when, at the given signal, a hungry group of bomb-laden pups forced an entire Soviet division into retreat.
