MATCH BOOK COLLECTION

When Mrs. E. Suttiens returned home from Neasden Public Library with a copy of The Last of the Mohicans for her invalid husband, she was surprised to find that the book she had borrowed contained 200 spent matches, tied in bundles and neatly packed into a cavity cut into the books pages. Pinned to the facing page was a picture from a mail-order catalogue of a woman in her underwear.
Library staff were alerted and they discovered another 72 titles which had been defaced in exactly the same way. All the books had the word last in the title. The phenomenon then spread to the librarys record department, where the cassette case for James Last Go Go was found to contain 80 paper cut-out brassieres.
