| DEWY DALE Dorothea Dewy Dale began inventing board games and puzzles when she was still at school in Kansas City. She was particularly fond of palindromes and would spend hours creating sentences that read the same backwards as forwards. In 1930 she founded the Palindrome Society and for the next 52 years edited the societys news magazine, Madam Im Adam. Dewy came up with various board games such as Go Fetch the Rabbit and Lucky Bimpsons but her big break came when game manufactured Milton Bradley paid her $40,000 for Oscar, a game she had based on Hollywoods film industry. Within six months, two million sets were sold. She maintained a lifelong friendship with Jeff Bradley of Milton Bradley, whom she married in 1980, aged 71. She died in 1982 and the inscription on her grave is perhaps her finest palindromic creation: Dewy Dale. Cinema Game. Nice Lady Wed. |
