| FIFTY-TWO PICK-UP One day in 1960, Frank Damek of Chicago was walking down a street in his neighborhood when he came across a playing card lying on the sidewalk. He picked it up and put it in his pocket. When, three weeks later, he chanced upon a second card in another part of town, Frank decided that id he kept his eyes peeled whenever he was out walking, it might be possible to collect a complete pack of cards. The task proved more difficult than he imagined. Ten years later he was still 15 cards short. As his collection grew, the chances of finding duplicate cards inevitably increased. But Frank was determined to achieve his goal and continued his search for another 20 years, finally completing his pack in 1990. |
