Work Experience:

APEX, Inc.
December 2007 April 2008
San Bruno, CA
Contractor at Intuit
NOC Engineer
After successfully completing this contract for the 2007 tax season, I returned to Intuits Mountain View site to perform Systems Administrator support for the 2008 tax season. The DB group once again needed to step up monitoring of server response and reliability. As with the past year, the department was once again augmented to allow for 24X7 monitoring. Using SiteScope, Watchtower, and other monitoring tools enabled proactive monitoring procedures. Our tests and verifications are a product learned from the previous year, enabling our group to resolve more issues than we could the previous year before escalation. This year, management changed documentation provided at the end of each shift by each systems administrator to a word file. Each Admin now ends their shift by sending a word file to a distribution list for viewing of any new or ongoing issues in our tools, procedures or network. This file would be stored locally as well, for future reference.

NOC Analyst
At Walmart.com, the majority of the servers are located in Bentonville, Arkansas. Analysts would use Proactive Net Monitoring System for real time viewing of alarms. Viewing various displays, TomCat, servers and other systems could be viewed and issues such as increasing disk space would be addressed by reducing filesize, or assuring 3rd party downloads of music with Snapfish, among others would continually operate to standards. Use of Remedy Action Request System to analyze issues and tasks or to escalate and assign to the appropriate group, DBAs, Net Eng, etc... In addition, I would personally represent our group over an international conference call (400+ people) reporting various status changes.

APEX, Inc.

At Intuits Mtn. View, site, during the tax season, it was necessary for the DB group to step up monitoring of sales and server reliability. The department was augmented to allow for 24X7 monitoring. With proactive monitoring procedures, testing would occur periodically throughout a shift. E-mail notification served to augment server checks. Servers were remotely located, and in the event that power cycles were necessary, the Infrastructure group would get involved. When any other issues would occur, the group I was part of would resolve what issues we could, escalating when necessary.
