Careers on Stage and on Air

Ask students if they've ever been part of a play or theatrical production. What role did they have? Talk about how, although the actors are the most visible participants in a play, many people behind the scenes are involved. These roles are also careers for people who love the theater. In fact, actors may choose a related career later on. Discuss the following roles, noting that these are just a few of the many people involved in putting on a production:

Identify careers in the theater and understand their primary         responsibilities.

Describe tasks and challenges involved in a career by performing that role in a classroom play.

You can tell it's the beginning of fall when the leaves begin to change color, the air feels a bit crisper and Halloween costumes and candy have already arrived in the stores. But when does fall officially kick off? In 2006, the Autumn Equinox falls on September 22nd.

Autumn Equinox - Activities

If you're looking for things to do for the Autumn Equinox, why not help out with some yard work? Pick up the fallen apples or rake the leaves. This way, you'll be helping your 'rents while being out in nature at the same time. If that doesn't sound too appealing to you, then how about having some friends over to bake an apple pie or to make some fall crafts?

Autumn Equinox - Balancing Act

The Fall Equinox is the first day of fall and signifies the start of shorter days and longer nights in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, the opposite takes place. On this day, both day and night are equal, with 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark. The balance of light and dark also happens on the Spring Equinox but in the spring, the days (light hours) become longer and the nights (dark hours) become shorter

Why Do Leaves Change Color?

The arrival of fall brings cool new back-to-school clothes, the return of football and hockey and beautiful chameleon leaves. Are trees as fashion conscious as the celebs or is there more to this color change? Kidzworld finds out!

Autumn Leaves - Goodbye Green Trees

During winter, there's not enough water or light for photosynthesis to take place. The trees have to live off the food they stored during the summer. The food-making factories start shutting down and the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves. When the bright green fades away, the yellow and orange colors - that have always been underneath - begin to show. They've been there all along they've just been covered up by the green chlorophyll. Eventually even those colors fade and the brown leaves start to drop off.

The Fall Equinox marks the beginning of Autumn.
