This Ends the first lab. Turn in your screen printouts.
Back to TopLab 2 is a conceptual lab, meaning you aren't "coding" this lab,
you are using "storyboards" or what I like
to called "structural" diagrams like in Chapter 3 to show visually
how your site will work and what pages
link to what other pages and how they link. It will show if they
are sequential, hierarchical , or etc.
For this lab, create a visual website (meaning on paper only) using
MS Word (drawing toolbar), MS Visio,
or whatever products you are most familar with and design a website
focused on good design principles,
effective navigation, and grouping "like" thoughts together on pages
to make your process flow smoothly.
The website is a site to sell your used goods (similar to a yard sale
or an add in your local paper...only
online). The site should list your personal information
and how interested people should get in touch
with you, should state the purpose of your site and list at least 5
items you have to sell. The information
you will give on each item is the following:
a. item name (or tpe of item)
b. description of item including size or dimensions
when necessary
c. condition of item including excellent,
good, poor, needs work, etc
d. age of the item (is it new, 5 years old,
10 years old)
e. asking price
You can design this website any way you wish, the only requirement is
that you must use multiple webpages
and show them in your storyboard and how they relate (ie: on page 61
there is a general example of
a storyboard...you would have to show sample pages with information
rather than just the word "link". There
is also and example on page 63 that shows the actual content of the
page and arrows show which link goes
to the next page and it's content. either will do fine)
(start of your project)
Using your printouts from week 0 homework (the site you found for a university,
online newspaper, or sports site), you need to begin to produce the layout for
at least the first page of your site. Again, this is not
coding, it's a conceptual design that will is probably easiest
in Word. Layout a Word document (similar to the one of page 75) which
shows text and links and any images necessary. In Word it's easy then
to show color and such especially if printed on a color printer. If you
do not have access to a color printer, note on the page what the color
or sizes are so I know. What I will be wanting is some draft idea of the following
for your project: REMEMBER THIS IS DRAFT...it may change as we work
on this project.
This is the first lab you will be coding. Open of any editor you wish to use and do the following:
1. Create a document called "Joe's Bar and Grill.htm"
2. Give the web page the title "Items on Our Menu"
3. Enter the Title of the restaurant at the top, centered, with an
H2 style.
4. Enter the address (123 Main Street Anytown, Ohio 44444)
after a blank line, centered, with an H5 style.
5. Place a horizontal line that coveres the entire width of the page
under the address
6. Center a line saying Today's Specials before the list of items below:
7. Left align a paragraph saying all items are served with choice of
chips or fries and a house salad.
6. Create a definition list for each of the following items on the
menu today. Names of dish are entered as
definition terms; descriptions are entered as definition
descriptions.
items include:
item description
Lab 5 is intended to help you work on your skills for anchors, using images,
and tables. I would like you to create a website for a fictional class you would
like to teach on your favorite hobby. It could be a class on sewing class, a
class on fishing,
a class on hunting or books to read. The website must include the following
specifications:
In Lab3 you started the design of your project website in conceptual form. Add
on to this website showing your links to additional pages you will use and what
the layout of your pages will be. Include your navigation and footnoting,
and add concepts we've worked on like anchors, images, tables, and lists
where you will be using them on your site. Do a draft coding of your HomePage
along with one other draft linked page. Turn in your work so far as lab 6.
This lab is Project A from the book. This is located on
page 357 in your book and is building a News website. All images
and necessary information is located on your CD in the back of the book.
It will combine tables, images, formatting, styles, and an overall picture
of all the work we've done so far.
Lab8
In this lab you will take your suggestions you turned in from your inclass
work
for standardizing my webpage, and put them to use. If you sign on and go
to my website, you can right click on the page and you should see the option
to view the source (make sure you are looking at the main section of the webpage
where my Bluejackets Image is). You may copy and paste this code if you wish
to start with that, or you can code a new site from scratch. The following
pages are the ones you will need to "create" or "recreate" as the case may
be to complete this lab.
In general I am asking you to use the CONTENT from my site, but your can
format, color, do frames or not, as you see fit. This is a lab where you are
taking MY code, copying it, and making updates to the code to make it your own
design but with my content.
