What can we learn from Amanda

We can learn a lot about ourselves and what we can do by watching Amanda through out the movie. She is like an image of what we can be like if we start thinking about things in a different way like the movie suggests that we should.

At the beginning of the movie Amanda seems to be lost in the world around her. She doesnt understand what is going on and is overwhelmed by it all. She is beginning to see the world like the movie says the world is. She feels that she is powerless and clueless in the world, and so she has anxiety attacks.

She tries to avoid what she had bad experiences with like at the church. She associates that church and wedding with the pain she suffered because of her wedding. We realize how we associate things like this together as well. We also learn that if we become aware of what is happening in our brain, like its associations, we can rewire the neuronets to make our thought processes and associations change.

At the wedding reception she sees the different emotions of the people celebrating. She comes to see how her emotions can change how she thinks (the teenagers looking for a girl), how she works (the man at the buffet), and what happens to her (the brides maid who knew something bad would happen to her). At this point she just lets go and doesnt want to notice any of this anymore. She wants everything to be simple again, like we often do when things get complicated or confusing.

The following morning she gets up and is disgusted with her self and has a horrible self-image. Then she remembers what the man in the subway said to her: If a thought can do that to water, imagine what it can do to us. She applied this as a good way to live her life, thinking the best of her self and good things will happen. That seemed to work, she was much happier after this realization, and was fine looking at the church she got married at, because she had refined her thought process about it. After being amazed and frightened by seeing her self at the movies with her ex-husband at the beginning of the movie, she expects the infinite possibilities and is fine with this same image at the end. We can live like this as well. Having a good attitude towards everything can make everything better. It makes us happier and more content with life. This is what Amanda showed us.
