An Organization of Faith
The Walker Scottish Rite Clinic in St. Louis, Missouri
(From http://srjarchives.tripod.com/1998-04/Cernich.htm)
The Walker Scottish Rite clinic is an organization of faith because it helps the children. This organization in St. Louis helps young children with Language Disorders from ages 2 to 6 that are otherwise completely normal kids. They help the children learn to speak and speak more clearly with interesting exercises. The children that qualify for their programs are typically children that do have a distinguished language disorder and would have trouble paying for this kind of help elsewhere. This service is free of charge for those who qualify. The amount of children who qualify has become large and some families cannot make it all the way into the city, so there is also a traveling van that visits houses to help their children speak. The clinic also makes a special effort to detect children with these disorders at a young age because it is easier to help then. It also is an attempt to help children to speak before they reach school where others without this problem could be cruel to them. This can hinder their social and emotional growth. The clinic overall makes an amazing effort to help the kids. It includes the parents with progress reports and needs the parents to help make it work by continuing the exercises the kids do with the therapists. There are also well over 130 Scottish Rite centers, clinics, and programs spread all around the United States.

I chose the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic as my organization of faith because I have seen its work first hand. My cousin has gone to the clinic for over a year and Ive noticed a lot of improvement. He started going at the age of three and at that time I had only heard him say a few clear words ever. After a few months of going there I saw him and he could clearly say my name as well as a lot of complete sentences. Now he talks all the time. Ive also volunteered at their fundraisers and seen the cheery way they go about their work and their willingness to help the children. I am sure that this organization is one of faith from everything Ive seen it do.
