Journal 1:
Why Study Morality?
1) Studying morality is important because morality affects the choices we make everyday. Our morals have been developing inside of us since a young age and have made us the people we are today. In studying morality we learn about how to make the important choices in our life that make us who we are. Our morality digs deep into the core of what kind of person we are, so we learn about ourselves and what kind of person we are by looking at it. If we discover who we really are by our morality we may not like it. We may find something wrong or that we really dont believe in. Once this is discovered we can change this and this allows us to be the people we really want to be.
2)
1) What morality did you grow up with?
Growing up I had a simple format
morality thrown at me: always do what is right. Defining what is right were
many different sources telling me what is right. My favorite movie from age
2) Cite a song and book or movie that has a strong moral message that affects you today.
A song that affects me is Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). It has helped me to see that life is too short to worry too much about the past, and to concern myself most with making the best of what I can presently. It also says to live life to the fullest because after a while all you might have are these great or bad memories to reflect on.
The movie Forrest Gump has taught me to be kind to everyone. Kindness and friendliness turned even the coldest hearts like Lieutenant Dan to become friends of Forrest. It also shows that even if you arent blessed with a great thing like intelligence you can have a fulfilling life.
4) Cite a value, idea, or feeling you have unconsciously acquired from those with whom you spend time.
Ive become more laid back and relaxed about school as a result of spending time with my friends. I have come to accept that everything I make doesnt have to be perfect, and that all my work doesnt have to be my greatest ever. I have begun to put effort into the classes I want to rather than the every class.

This picture reminds
me of the story you told us about seeing minorities filling the buses, and how
it raises a moral issue.
4) Why do I do
the things that I do? What are the reasonings for my actions?
5) To become a
more moral person I should try to take the right speech experiment to its
fullest extent, and really focus on the reasons that I lie. Then I can
understand who I really am. I should also try the difficult task of stopping
lying altogether, even in the covert forms of false witness, idle chatter,
gossip, and slander.
