| Dacia Maraini's 2003 visit to UT-Austin |

Dacia Maraini  

Dacia Maraini, one of the most celebrated Italian writers and winner of many prestigious literary prizes such as the Premio Strega, visited the U.T. campus from November 17 to November 22, 1999.

She is the author of ten novels, and has also written poetry, plays, and screenplays.


Two events focused on Maraini's 1990 novel, La lunga vita di Marianna Ucrìa ("The Silent Duchess"), an international best seller:

Monday 22 November at 3:30 pm in the Tom Lea Room of the Humanities Research Center

a lecture in English by Dacia Maraini
"Marianna Ucrìa. The Silence of a Wounded Woman:
Absence or Protest?
Narrative and Theatrical Moments."
A reception followed.


Friday 19 November, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in the Texas Union, Santa Rita Room

Wednesday & Thursday, 1 & 2 December, at 8:00 pm in CAL 100

The Italian Drama Workshop presented in Italian
a play by Dacia Maraini,
Veronica, meretrice e scrittora
(1991) about the Renaissance poetess and courtesan Veronica Franco.

Dacia Maraini attended a rehearsal of the play on Thursday 18 November.

the Department of Theater and Dance, the Program in Comparative Literature
