Herbal Recipes

Here be herbals! Salves, tinctures, rubs, oils, vinegars, poultices, skin care and hair rinses concocted with herbs and other natural ingredients.

Sage Cream

1 cup vegetable oil

¼ cup dried sage or ½ cup fresh sage

1 tsp vegetable glycerin

1 tsp lanolin (optional)

1 tbsp beeswax (more or less)

Heat oil slightly add sage and let set of 1 hour or more. Strain and reserve oil. Add more oil if needed to measure 1 cup. Put back in pan and reheat. Add glycerin, lanolin and beeswax. Stir until melted. Remove from heat and cool. As salve cools stir to mix glycerin into it. If salve is too runny, heat and add more beeswax, if too stiff add more oil. Bottle and use on wounds and sores.

21 Herb Rub

Yields 1 Pint (480 mL)

Use on bruises, sprains, strains, swellings, and sore areas. Do not use on open wounds, open sores, or burns.

Choose a minimum of 21 herbs that you would like to use and measure out approx. 1/2 tsp of each (Except - no more than 1/8 tsp for Cayenne). Crush and cut the selected herbs to make them somewhat finer. Place the herbs in a bottle or jar and cover with 70% Isoprpyl Rubbing Alcohol. Close tightly and set in the sunshine for 1 year, shaking two times a day. Do not open until the year is up. The herbs will disintegrate and deteriorate with age. After the years time, strain the solution and put into a clean bottle.
