Coping: blur - general: favourite song and why?

Best Blur Song?

Have to be Resigned, closely followed by Sing.

Why? Well some things have to be private!

Yours in milk and fluffy bunnies

By LiLu on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 - 07:43 am:

my favourite blur song is The Universal. i actually have a difficult time listening to it because it makes me cry. Sing and Clover Over Dover make me cry too. there was a point in my life when all blur songs made me cry. i went to a blur concert and cried until i couldn't breathe when they played The Universal. and then i started coughing because i was crying too much. and then alex looked concerned. and then i cried some more. *sniff* ...*sniff* excuse me i have something in my eye ... *runs sobbing out of the room*

By Mae on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 - 10:23 am:

My favourite song is definitely CHEMICAL WORLD because it was the first song that I heard from them.I fell madly in love with them and vowed to find out more about them.So here I am...2 years later. But honestly, I love them all.I could never hate a song by BLUR and I adore the feeling of new/old songs becoming favourites. It's marvelous.

By Sarah on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 - 11:47 am:

The Universal and To the End...i don't know..two of Blur's greatest love songs i guess...Blue Jeans gets to me too..i'm a sucker for slow sentimental songs really..and Damon sounds really good in Beetlebum

By Beetlebum on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 - 11:59 am:

This is A Low. That song is just the best. its sorta meaningful. popscene and theres no other way also. i just cant help dancing (you make me feel like dancing/gonna dance the night away).i always have to sit on my friends shoulders during this is a low. damon came over and smiled at me during, alex asked me how i was and graham smiled in this is a low. its perfect. all emotions in one. irritatingly so. i just cannot convey how much i love this song! the first blur song i heard was popscene. ace song. 6 years ago!ah, to be there then. im only 14 now.. popscene is the perfect song to dance to. perfect. yeah.

By Anonymous on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 - 05:53 pm:

Trouble in the message centre. It's the song that turned me into the slobbering Blur fan that I am, and there is none better.

By Denis Blairon on Wednesday, August 19, 1998 - 06:46 pm:

Mine's definitely you're so great.
The whole 'Blur' too, and Sunday Sunday before.

By Skrooball on Thursday, August 20, 1998 - 10:05 pm:

Best Blur song...hmm..there are so many greats, but it's got to be either "For Tomorrow" or "Beetlebum" ... That lovely chorus on "Beetlebum" just melts my heart every time..Oh yeah, and "Popscene" makes me wanna wreck the joint! Hahaha!

By Resigned on Saturday, August 22, 1998 - 05:36 pm:

wow, so many good tunes. there's no other way, probably. i just love the melody, and Damon sounds damn cool. popscene is great, and so is Resigned. girls and boys was the first blur song i had heard and so thats cool. Jubilee is an amazing song. and song 2 rocks wonderfully.

By Julia on Sunday, August 23, 1998 - 12:02 pm:

BEARD. The best blur song.. y? coz i luv jazz. and blur playing jazz is the best! Second song... hm... This is a low or Popscene... aw, i like so many blur songs... hard to decide...

By LJ on Monday, August 24, 1998 - 08:54 pm:

I have to say the never performed Clover Over Dover is my favourite. I don't know why. Just listen to it as soon as you're off surfin' the net and you'll see what I mean. Also Badhead, the most under-rated of Blur's songs.

By Traffic on Monday, August 24, 1998 - 09:02 pm:

definitely This is a Low.

By Inertia on Monday, August 24, 1998 - 09:50 pm:

For Tomorrow or this is a low- or perhaps Inertia!!

By Alex on Friday, August 28, 1998 - 06:24 am:

*********ULTRANOL*************

...it's ecstatic!!

By Leanne on Saturday, August 29, 1998 - 12:22 am:

I love all of blur songs but a few of my favorites are 'For Tomorrow'(I could listen to that song all day), 'This is a low', 'Colin Zeal'.

By Skrooie on Sunday, August 30, 1998 - 12:54 am:

Oh yeah, I forgot to say 'This Is a Low'..how could I ??

By Anonymous on Monday, August 31, 1998 - 09:52 am:

Blur have got so much material that it's impossible to say which is their best song. It also depends what mood you're in: like sometimes Sing is great and other times it's crap. I like Threadneedle Street, Peter Panic, Explain, Beetlebum, Fool, Resigned and End of a Century cos' they're all brilliant. Why do I like them? Nice tunes, clever lyrics, the usual reasons...

By Santos on Tuesday, September 1, 1998 - 06:46 pm:

Mu favorite Blur Song is "Entertain Me" of The Great Escape album. I believe thier best album is the Great Escape, Oh I also like Starshpe from Modern Life is Rubbish...

By Sam. on Thursday, September 3, 1998 - 07:56 am:

sing, blue jeans and to the end mmmmmmmmmm....................

By Susan on Friday, September 11, 1998 - 10:13 pm:

My fave Blur song is "You're So Great" definetly, I'm not exactly sure, i think it's because i'm mroe attracted to graham's songwriting style and his voice than Damon's, but it's followed closely by To The End and Sing which are simply amazing songs!

By Jade on Monday, September 14, 1998 - 04:23 am:

BLUE JEANS
The Universal
She is so High *i want to crawl all over herrrr*
You're so Great and
Entertain me (fab dance song)

By Christopher Lyons on Tuesday, September 15, 1998 - 09:52 pm:

This Is A Low and She's So High.

By Christopher Lyons on Tuesday, September 15, 1998 - 09:53 pm:

Oh arse, forgot to say why I liked the above songs... eerrm... This Is A Low is one of the
few songs that can bring a tear to my eye,
and She's So High is just gorgeous...reminds me
of a certain girl and a certain time and a certain
place...but that's another story.

By Geir C on Thursday, September 17, 1998 - 12:15 pm:

My fav Blur song is ......(drumroll) ......
The depressive story of Jubilee....I think it really catches the glimpse of what's it like to be on the outside kinda....."He's not keen on being like anyone else..." That says it all really, and the song has a really great riff too! i just love when they performed the song on MTV's Most Wanted
Definetly my fav Blur moment! Cheers..

By Chemical Girl on Sunday, September 20, 1998 - 12:57 am:

Wowie.....

I fell in love with the songs from Parklife when I was deeply depresseda few months ago. Whenever I had no energy for the day, I would listen to "Girls And Boys" and would start dancing around the room. "Parklife" made me smile and feel warm and happy inside when I felt like dying. Nowdays, I have almost all their albums (except Leisure. Out of print here in the U.S), and certain songs help me thru l'il times and certain ones help me thru huge times. I often listen to "Chemical World" and "Popscene" when say I am pissed at my mum, or when I was expecting something I wanted really bad and didn't get it. My mum has this paranoia on holidays, and she wont even take the car out of the driveway coz she thinks she'll get in a crash with a drunk driver, and so on the Fourth Of July when I cannot see fireworks, I just get in my room, cry and listen to "Popscene" and "Chemical World", and it loosens me up. I dunno, lemme wrap this babble of words up and say my favorite songs and least favorites (doesn't mean I hate them, just what I do not care for).....

Favorite Song: Clover Over Dover, Girls And Boys, To The End, Bank Holiday, Song 2, You're So Great, Popscene, Movin' On, Stereotypes, Charmless Man, On Your Own

Least Favorite Song: Sunday Sunday, She's So High, London Loves

Please dont clobber me if I like something you do not or vice versa

By Camille on Sunday, September 20, 1998 - 03:34 am:

hey. a really awesome thing about blur is that they put the guitar chords in their little cd book thingys coz the songs on great escape were the first songs i ever played on guitar. i hope they put the chords in their next album. i really love all the songs but i guess i like ' End of a Century' or could be you as some of the best.

Favourite song...that really depents on my mood. I always get happy when listening to On Your Own. And I really love This Is A Low, To The End and He Thought Of Cars. Well, I think I don't have a special favourite one- they're all so great...Cheers.

By Ryan on Thursday, October 15, 1998 - 06:14 am:

my fav blur songs are clover over dover and beetlebum. beetlebum is one of the most beautiful songs of all time and clover is close behind

By Jonty on Thursday, October 15, 1998 - 12:06 pm:

It is so cool that other fans like some the same as me;
CLOVER OVER DOVER brings tears to my eye
so does SING
ENDOFCENT. and ON YOUR OWN really hit the spot.
SONG2 and POPSCENE both just make me wanna jump around on stage with some drinking dry ginger ale.
PARKLIFE and COUNTRY HOUSE make feel British even though I'm Australian.

THERE'S TOO MANY

By Grahamsgirl on Friday, October 16, 1998 - 04:32 am:

even though i love all their songs i'd have to say that i like "End of a Century" the best because it's so grand

By Erin Lee on Friday, October 16, 1998 - 05:25 am:

I have four favorite Blur songs. The Universal, Best Days, You're so great, and This Is A Low. They are all so beautifully done and they each have hidden meanings. Like Grahms battle with alcoholism in You're so great. I mean they are all so beautiful. I guess I'd have to say that all Blur songs are my favorite, but if I could only have four to listen to, it would be these. Blur is just wonderful themselves.

By Daniel on Friday, October 16, 1998 - 03:10 pm:

THIS IS A LOW

never thought much bout it at first but it jus got better after every listen.....

By Angel on Monday, October 19, 1998 - 04:58 pm:

My favorite song? Oh, my god...I never can answer on that question, so I dont. For I love every song so much. So I cant choose...

By Coxon on Tuesday, October 20, 1998 - 02:07 pm:

This Is A Low...End Of A Century...Chemical World...Badhead...BeetleBum...You're So Great...For Tomorrow...There's No Other Way...To The End...StereoTypes...Charmless Man...

that's the list of all the one's that I listen to most regularly...but I love virtually all of them.

By L01gomme on Thursday, October 22, 1998 - 10:39 am:

all of them are brilliant, on evrery album i could listen and listen for ever, but my absolute fave has to be End Of A Century, i love damon

By Porklife on Thursday, October 22, 1998 - 09:02 pm:

THREADNEEDLE STREET, PETER PANIC, LET'S ALL GO DOWN THE STRAND, POLISHED STONE

Why? Cos they're all brilliant. And I get a bit sick of album tracks every now and then cos' I listen to them so often. But I don't think I could pick a fave off an album. There's so many great songs. And it depends what mood your in. I think Blue Jeans is very good though.

I like theme from an Imaginary film, It's so sweet and Damon really has a nice voice! Oh, I think Sing is sad, I cry when I put that on aswell...it is rather sad, but I put all depressing songs on when I'm depressed.
Oh PS I have a new addy!

Far Out - Alex sings it.

By Allison on Friday, November 13, 1998 - 05:48 pm:

Cowboy Song off of the Dead Man on Campus soundtrack. Need I say more?
Song 2. Off of the self titled album. More American, but leaving a lot of the brit pop style. And how many videos do you know to have a guy bouncing off of a wall?

By P.O.G on Saturday, November 14, 1998 - 03:39 am:

Allison why are you so facinated with "a guy bouncing off of a wall" they can all do it you know. My favourite song is Chemical World because the lyrics really appeal to me.

By Alex on Tuesday, November 17, 1998 - 12:35 pm:

It's so bloody hard to decide... I suppose i'll have to say TAME is my fav, Blur song. Although i love them ALL!!!!!!! Clover over Dover's so great too!...

By Alli on Tuesday, November 17, 1998 - 09:36 pm:

My favorite song of Blur is Gils&Boys. When I listen this song, I've a good feeling. It's the same thing with entertain me, on your own, end of a century, to the end, death of a party and sing.

By Sarah on Sunday, November 22, 1998 - 06:55 pm:

It's kind of difficult to narrow it down to only one favourite song, but I'm not far off the mark with four: The song which made me fall in love with blur was FOR TOMMORROW- words can't describe how much effect it had/still has on me! The song I love when they play live is THE UNIVERSAL, the song I wish I was the subject of is YOU'RE SO GREAT- beautiful... and the song that makes me jive is the simple, but wonderful, I LOVE HER...
Well that's it then. But I have to say I find something I like in every blur song, be it the (wrongly) slagged off new stuff or the classic old stuff- *blur are magic*

By Groupie McLame on Monday, November 23, 1998 - 07:15 am:

woo hoo.......song 2 rules.......blur's only good song

By Crystal on Monday, November 23, 1998 - 01:10 pm:

My favourite Blur's songs are GIRLS & BOYS, THIS IS LOW & TO THE END. Girls & Boys is the first song i heard Blur's sound. That's really great!

By Jose Paul Tarin Hernandez on Monday, November 23, 1998 - 06:16 pm:

Well, the best Blur's song?...Mmm...I love END OF A CENTURY, BEETLEBUM, FAR OUT, BADHEAD,YOU'RE SO GREAT and STRANGE NEWS FROM ANOTHER STAR. I guess Damon had to be really (as we say in Mexico) pachuco to be able to write those songs(Yes, I know Graham wrote YOU'RE.. and Alex FAR OUT). Anyway Blur's songs are the best.
*Pachuco means...drugged(Is it well written?).
PAUL

By Sara on Tuesday, November 24, 1998 - 04:50 pm:

The best blur song?
On your own, I'm not really sure why. I like the text, but there's something more. I'm not sure what, I just love it. It makes me happy.
Bang, Dan Abnormal, Colin Zeal and End of a century are of course some of my faves too. Tricky question...

By Katie on Tuesday, November 24, 1998 - 08:07 pm:

It's hard to pick one, so I'll list several:
Sing, For Tomorrow, Blue Jeans, End of a Century, Badhead, This is a Low, Country House, The Universal, Beetlebum, Strange News from Another Star

By Alex on Wednesday, November 25, 1998 - 05:54 am:

for a truely great"BLUR"experience I highly rcommend the following:Anertia,All your life,Polished stone and This is a low,(an important message to all those smack users out there).I think that any Blur fans who have heard these songs would agree.although I do admit that all Blur songs have thier own magic and special place for every one.I've been a fan for 8 years and i've yet to be disappointed.Cheers!

By Fox in Sox on Saturday, December 5, 1998 - 07:01 pm:

The live version of popscene on Bustin' and Dronin' is defenetley the best blur song ever. the great guitar makes up for the horns which are Bollix when they are played live anyway. It's also much faster and more energetic.

By L.S.B. on Saturday, December 5, 1998 - 08:13 pm:

My favourite Blur songs are the all of 2nd album,
and the others are : There's no other way.

By Mad on Monday, December 21, 1998 - 06:45 am:

this is such a boring subject, probably because (this is going to sound rude...) but I don't really care which songs you like. You probably don't give a shit what I like either, which is fine by me. As long as you are happy with your life, I'm glad for you.

Love Mad, who loves you all.

=o)

By Faye on Tuesday, December 22, 1998 - 02:43 am:

I'm actually quite attached to Oily Water at the moment. That is a brilliant chord progression. It's so discordant and weird and I adore that type of sound. Two songs I can never get enough of though: Trouble in the Message Centre and Blue Jeans. But in general, I like every Blur song.

By LUNA on Wednesday, December 23, 1998 - 02:06 am:

Lemme see here, this is a very difficult question for me. Out of all of their many brilliant songs, I'd have to say me favorites are THERE'S NO OTHER WAY, M.O.R., ENTERTAIN ME, GIRLS AND BOYS, TROUBLE IN THE MESSAGE CENTER, and THE UNIVERSAL.
Threre are'nt any songs I don't like except for THE DEBT COLLECTOR- it puzzles me ???

By Beth Dortmans on Wednesday, December 23, 1998 - 01:02 pm:

That is the hardest question I have ever been asked, but it would have to be a track from Parklife because that is the best most amazing album. I love This is a Low, because I crank up the volume and sing so loudly to it it's embarrassing. There's something about Badhead that i really love too. Beetlebum is also rather a brilliant song.

Parklife is one of the greatest albums ever. My fav's are:
*This is a low
*Trouble in the message centre.
*Clover over Dover.
*There's no other way.
*Colin ZeaL
*Chemical world.
I saw them at Monash Uni in Melbourne (Aust.)in November 97 with a crowd of only about 2000. Ah, the joys of living in a country where fine music is often unappreciated.

My all time favorite song would have to be "The Universal". It sounds so beautiful! Some of my other favorites are "You're So Great" because I love Graham's voice, "This Is A Low" , "For Tomorrow" , "There's No Other Way",and..... well there's really too many to list so I'll just leave it at that :)

By Mad on Thursday, December 31, 1998 - 06:55 am:

Oh, and I'm being told I'm boring! I have ethics, I have somthing to live by. My mind has not been overcome with intoxicants. They say wisdom comes with age, that could be a questionable fact due to the lack of intelligent things written here. That is not to say, I don't say completely irrational things here as well, I have said some stupid things, whilst being here, but I am often impersinated by some irksome person, who gets a kick out of irritating me.

SUNDAY SUNDAY has to be the best, not many agree but i think it rocks and it is so superb, way to good to sing along to.
End of a Century is wicked also...means alot to me..

By Miss America on Sunday, January 3 , 1999 - 1:45pm.

Best song - without a doubt, Chemical World. Wish they played it in concert more. Actually, maybe not, cos I would just end up crying more than I usually do. Also, This is a Low, - pure genius. But really, I love all the songs.

By Garth ennis on Wednesday, January 6, 1999 - 01:31 am:

The hidden track after Essex Dogs. Nice tune, but anyone know the lyrics to it?

Got Yer sucks ass.

Movin' ON is friggin' awesome. Ahhh ah ah ahhh ah ah ahh!

By Shane on Wednesday, January 6, 1999 - 09:29 pm:

::getting pissed off: why did almost NOBODY post Strange News? I think that it is by far the most under-rated blur song...everyone skips it, to listen to movin on! I can't listen to that song without crying hysterically...something about the way damon sings in it, and what he says, just the fact that it is something of his suicide note...
I love: This Is a Low (solo), Polished Stone (soooooo good), threadneedle street, You're So great (go graham), blue jeans, villa rosie, TNOW, Wear me down, lot 105, beetlebum (everything SINGS), dance hall, and Alex's Song! (it really is good!)

I have a few songs that I can't stand. Theme From Retro, London Loves, Tacy Jacks, Yuko and Hiro, and finally Ernold same. not a huge TGE fan here.

GO SNFAS!

By Margaret Houlihan on Thursday, January 7, 1999 - 05:46 am:

Peace on Earth!

By Aoife on Thursday, January 7, 1999 - 10:13 pm:

What's that about a suicide note? Am I the only one who wasn't aware of that? Please tell me more.

By God on Friday, January 8, 1999 - 09:06 am:

I think SNFAS is too much like This Is A Low:

TIAL: And into the sea goes pretty England and me
SNFAS: All I want to be is washed out by the sea

Actually, that's the only line...

By Shane on Sunday, January 10, 1999 - 04:59 am:

You never heard the sybolism? The "death star" is Damon's depression...it's symbolic of how much he wants to escape....just listen to the tone it's sung in. It was all about how he can't stand to cope anymore with the world and his life and unhappiness...haha, see, told you, TIAL is about a LOVE of life. SNFAS is about wanting to kill yourself...
point proven? no?
shane

By Faye on Sunday, January 10, 1999 - 05:29 am:

That's true Shane. The songs are complete opposites. Maybe those two lines are similar in the fact that they present images of the sea, but as a whole, each song conveys an altogether different feeling.

By Kate on Sunday, January 10, 1999 - 07:04 pm:

- i like 'repetition' i like to listen to it when i'm in me car..cos it's seems a bit monotomic yet it sounds wicked blared loud.
and the Universal of course..

By Happy Mad on Sunday, January 10, 1999 - 11:45 pm:

THe Death Star, is HELL. It's where you go after ODing on Coke. That's what that song is about. I know. Well I don't really. That was a complete guess.

By Kacy Albarn on Monday, January 11, 1999 - 01:44 am:

Damon did actually say in some interview that the death star symbolised the depression he was suffering before he went to Iceland, where he felt better. I hope he feels all right now. I wouldn't wish severe depression and panic attacks on anyone...I felt so bad for him, and SNFAS is a beautiful song, I love it too. It was one of the first on the album to really hit me with the depth of emotion. *sob**sob* That song, along with Sing and TIAL, can make me cry. But I agree that TIAL is more hopeful, more of a post-depression song.

By Mad on Monday, January 11, 1999 - 04:55 am:

Ahhh, depression is a terrible thing. It dissolves your thoughts and any sense you ever had. I don't wish it on any one here either. It saddens the soul. It begins new prejudices. Yes, depression is a state of living death.

By Beth on Monday, January 11, 1999 - 05:09 am:

I know what you mean, and I totally agree. SNFAS, really does capture the feeling. Does anyone know if it has any relevence to the Hermann Hesse novel of the same name?

By Shane on Saturday, January 16, 1999 - 04:52 am:

i live for SNFAS....it makes me cry every time. it sick how hard i cry through it. yes it's a depression song, it offers almost no hope, just a pathetic plea....TIAL offers hope, more of a "i'm homesick" song than a "i'm ready to leave this world" song....another great sad song is polished stone....just listen to it, i mean what he's saying is really kind of valid....i'm ramblin aren'ti? sorry!
shane

By Frances Jane on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 02:35 am:

Favourite blur song is Clover Over Dover and also Theme From An Imaginary Film.. and also maybe Magic America, He Thought Of Cars, Mr Robinson's Quango, Strange News From Another Star, Sing, There's No Other Way, All Your Life, End Of A Century... so many more, not enough time to write them all down.

By Wingethan on Saturday, January 23, 1999 - 05:39 am:

My favourite is THIS Is A LOW!
Though all blur songs are great and brilliant, THIS IS A LOW makes me cry once and once.
the touching lyrics......
when you're alone, it will be there with you

By REIN on Saturday, January 23, 1999 - 07:25 pm:

did you know that "this is a low" is about heroin.crazy but true.now who's crying? i too like that song but my favorite blur song is inertia,
"fear of being left behind, can take you over. slowly you will choke..."does anyone else find mild deppresion sort of romantic? maybe i just need help haha.....blur are delicious!

By Mad on Saturday, January 23, 1999 - 10:14 pm:

Oh dearie me. Hello. How are you? Oh dearie me. Oh dearie me.

"Hello"

There the only words I know from that happy land song. I know the tune, I just don't know the words so I can't type what it sounds like can I? You get what I mean don't you?

By Wingethan on Sunday, January 24, 1999 - 06:54 am:

Dear REIN & other blur fans,
Thanks to tell me that the song is about heroin, crazy but true. Everytime, when I am in despair, I like to listen to it. I am from Hong Kong. Here, the pop songs are only the commercial products. They are insincere. Luckily, my friend introduced blur to me. I am obliged to her......
REIN, though I love the song too much, I know little about the song. Can anyone tell me in detail? Each time, I've the strong desire to know more behind the songs. However, it is limited to get the information...Uh! I am so unhappy recently. I need to participate the open Exam in the coming May. Moreover, in 15031999, I will be taking part in the Mock Exam at school. I won't be able to but the new release, "13", at once!!! How disappointed I am?......
Best regards!
Love,
Vinci
p.s. Is there any blur fans from HK? Please contact me.

By Magic American on Friday, February 5, 1999 - 06:37 am:

My favorite song?

ESSEX DOGS!

I'm from the States, and I don't know a damn thing about Essex or whatever. But it reminds me of the town I grew up in. And it's just noisy and scary. I think it is truly cool that a band that can do a song like "The Universal" (my second fav.) can do a noisy piece of sound collage as this. I live for that chainsaw "Here comes that panic attack" part.

By Magic American on Wednesday, February 17, 1999 - 05:48 pm:

What about albums? My favorites are "Blur" and "The Great Escape". I love how they play "Magical Mystery Tour" and "The White Album" to each other. The most overblown, huge arrangements on one, followed by the noisiest, shattered "sum of all parts" album. Beautiful, and only successful by bands of this caliber.

Lyrically speaking, I like MLIR the best. But I don't like the arrangements as much. Sort of Middle Of the Road compared to the other ones. (In my opinion. I know it's probably the most liked album they've done)

By God on Thursday, February 18, 1999 - 11:23 am:

That German bit is a phrase that means "better living through technology" I believe.

By Paranoid Android on Friday, February 19, 1999 - 03:34 am:

I don't really have a favourite song. It depends on my mood. Right now I am obsessed with Colin Zeal, Coping, and Chemical World. Why? Because my work situation reminds me of these 3 songs.
I also loves Clover Over Dover, it makes me cry and I love the reciprocating(I am not sure if I am using the right word) singing style. Badhead, To The End also make me cry. I get somewhat overly excited(not in a sexual way, but kind of rowdy) when I listen to Chinese Bomb, Bank Holiday. Sing and Peaches are brilliant. I can go on about Blur songs, there are so many that are excellent.

By Ashley Hooper on Friday, February 19, 1999 - 05:18 am:

My fave Blur songs in order are:

TIAL
Badhead
Country-Sad Ballad Man, um

that's about where I get stuck because so many of their songs are so flipping beautiful!!

For those who like 'You're so Great' try the Graham Coxon album 'The Sky is Too High' it rocks in a lo-fi way!

Blur certainly has something, I think it's the tunes - poppy but not throwaway and the sheer variety of styles they cover. AND THE SENSE OF HUMOUR!!! even when they're being cynical bastards!

Well reading everyone's favourite songs has made me feel like less of a freak for being a huge Blur fan at the age of 25!!

Peace from New Zealand!!! ASH

By Mike Balazy on Friday, February 19, 1999 - 08:42 pm:

It's difficult for me to choose my favourite song because I just think that I like all of them. However I believe that YUKO AND HIRO is the one which makes me very moved, mostly by its music. Thanks Blur for having created so wonderful songs.Nat, the french girl.

By Cynicality on Tuesday, February 23, 1999 - 12:13 am:

how come no one really likes strange news from another star????? i love this song, its definitely my fav off 'blur'. picking a fav blur song seems impossible to me. probably why most people list several. its like picking a fav beatles song. all you can do really is pick like 1 or 2 off each album that you like best. some of my other favs are dan abnormal and blue jeans, popscene to get the blood flowing. what a fab song. ooooh, on your own is another of my favs off blur.

By Kev on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 07:33 am:

My favourite Blur songs? Well, that depends...

every track on "modern life is rubbish" is excellent.

lyrically, I think "Resigned" is a great song, I always listen to "Birthday" on my birthday, that's a great song. "Tracy Jacks" is beyond cool. I love the part in "For Tomorrow", when Damon sings, "...modern life well it's rubbish..."...what else? Well "Beetlebum" has great lyrics, and so does "London Loves", and "Starshaped".

musically speaking, "Girls and Boys" is fab, so is "Country House", and "Sing" and "She's So High", and of course, "Coping"...wow too many to tell!

but the cream of the crop, I'd have to say, if there was only one blur song I could hear for the rest of ym life, it would have to be...."For Tomorrow". Perfect song.

By Kevin on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 09:35 pm:

that's not me, by the way

By Tam on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 11:32 pm:

My favorites have to be Beetlebum, Tender, This is a Low, and of course the Universal, oh and BLue Jeans, and She's so High, there I have named one off of every album.
I tend to like there slower songs, because they seem to have more emotional impact on me.
His voice makes quiver, not really, but when I hear some of the songs, my heart sores, and I am not exaggerating there.
Whenever I hear Tender, My heart stops for one beautiful moment, and then I carry on.
Damon has that impact on me.

By Aoife on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 11:54 pm:

I'd say he'd be thrilled to read something like that Tam. I know I would be.

By Lucy on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 - 11:22 am:

argh, this is too hard. I LOVE chinese bomb, ultranol, tender, peter panic, a song, mor, stereotypes...... but y'know I don't like the universal, or miss america. They're so bland. Turn it up isn't much good either... This is a low is one of the sexiest songs ever hmmmmmmmm......

By Rudi on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 - 04:47 pm:

'tender'
simply is their best......just is.

By Aoife on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 - 11:14 pm:

(Sorry, just as soon as I saw your name, I made the sad link)

By Rudi on Thursday, March 4, 1999 - 09:25 am:

what do you think Aoife?

I didn't know 'yer man' had a nephew, anyway I like sad links.

By Rudi on Thursday, March 4, 1999 - 01:42 pm:

Oh and by the way, I have a pet fish, Eric, he's an Halibut. Any blur links in that one?...Aoife?

Must get back to work now, my boss ain't a blur fan apparently.
( looks more Tom Jones ish )
Altogether now... Tender is the night...

By Aoife on Thursday, March 4, 1999 - 10:47 pm:

I accept the challenge. Your fish Eric shares the same name as retired footballer Eric Cantona - ex-Man Utd. player. As we all know, Man Utd. and Chelsea are currently battling it out at the top of The Premier League (I think/hope). And, who's a big Chelsea Fan???? That's right, Damon!!!
Skill, eh?

By Unity on Saturday, March 6, 1999 - 12:03 am:

my favourite song is girls and boys. It says a lot to me about gender equity...we live in such a screwed up male dominated society that it's about time that someone said something. I think the following phrase puts it all into perspective...
love is love, girl is boy..I am you.. I need me

By Chantelle on Saturday, March 6, 1999 - 03:40 pm:

Damon is just soooo sexy on Tender. I can't wait to hear their new album- experimental music doesn't scare me in the least!

By Blurgirl13 on Sunday, March 14, 1999 - 12:38 am:

all we want is awsome! they should release it! to bad such a good song is a b-side(in my opinion). I can't wait till the new album is out in the U.S. All of the song clips i've heard are simply brilliant. Trimm Trab, Bugman, and no Distance Left to Run are all soon going to be my favorites. Anyway, Boys and Girls, Strange news from another star, on your own, this is a low, stereotypes, country house, charmless man, fade away, colin zeal, advert, chemical world, intermision, there's no other way, entertain me, dan abnornal, globe alone, peter panic, trouble in the message center, magic america, look inside america, movin' on(the remix by william orbit on B & D), essex dogs, I think that's it, but there's too many to name. Eventhough I'm american, song 2 is far from my list of favorite songs. it isn't that great of a blur song. most of their songs grow on you, but I got sick of song 2 after I heard it for the 10th time.

By Scorpio on Sunday, March 14, 1999 - 11:13 pm:

I dont know why I like it so much but it has something that the other songs dont have

I got '13' yesterday at 4:30 in the afternoon Australian time (15/3), which would make it only 5:30 in the morning in the UK. It has some pretty good songs on it, but my favorite would have to be 'Coffee and TV'. Also, for those that have heard it, am I the only one that thinks there are touches of 'Sing' in '1992'. Probably just me. Here are my favorites from their other 5 albums:

Leisure: 'There's no other way'
Modern Life: 'Chemical World'
Parklife: 'This Is A Low'
Great Escape: 'Charmless Man'
Blur: 'You're So Great'

Lets just hope they take a detour to Melbourne on their next tour......

i have to say girls/boys was my first fave, but then song 2, but i highly enjoy the song "blue Jeans" off of Modern Life is...and as for 13? well BATTLE is very cool...you gotta love Sing for all its Trainspotting glory, as well as She's so High because of its simple lyrics and wonderful tune..I could go on forever...but i won't

By Weirdo on Tuesday, March 30, 1999 - 02:29 pm:

I think this is the best topic on Coping.

:*)

By Beezer on Wednesday, March 31, 1999 - 10:54 am:

hey bbc...thanks for the link
the blur songs i like best are the shouty ones. bank holiday, popscene and chinese bombs....ooooh yeah.

i like shes so high too, it reminds me of a time when indie clubs were the thing...and you could be sure of hearing this followed by sally cinnamon before falling over on the dancefloor, lying in a pool of your own vomit...

or was that just me?

By Liz on Wednesday, March 31, 1999 - 12:31 pm:

My favorite Blur song is definetely their latest one: tender. And of course 'country house' coz it's the first one, I've ever heard from Blur.

popscene is certainly one of my favs...

Wow...this is a well answered topic....well my favorite songs are For Tommorow, To The End, blue jeans, parklife and TIAL. my new fave at the moment is Trimm trabb though. Really really lurrrve it!

By H7-25 on Saturday, April 10, 1999 - 05:03 pm:

you're so great, birthday (it seems like I wrote the lyrics)sing, resigned, end of a century, this is a low, far out, best days, ERNOLD SAME, yuko and hiro, the universal, mellow song and no ditance left to run.

Because i weep everytime I listen to such a Song...

By Alexandra on Saturday, April 10, 1999 - 08:18 pm:

Before 13 came out my fav song was Charmless Man, because I know a few people who are exactly like that. I found the lyrics so sarcastic, it's a great song.
Now my favourite one is Trimm Trabb, but don't ask me why, I cannot get it out of my mind anymore.........

By Matt m on Tuesday, April 13, 1999 - 12:41 am:

Here is my top 10
1.Beetlebum
2.Sing(especially at the astoria gig)
3.End Of A Century
4.Trouble in the message center
5.Chemical World
6.Country House
7.The Universal
8.Look inside America
9.One born every minute
10.Villa Rosie

I don't think 13 is as good as some older stuff, but it's blur and its still amazing.

By Bonkiegirl on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 - 01:08 am:

hi i'm new, and i'd have to say that my favorite song so far is parklife. it's such a happy song. he feeds the birds and enjoys life, wakes up when he wants. it all sounds very good to me.

By Melody on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 - 02:16 pm:

Too many to mention but I've got this theory that track 3 &/or 7 on any album is always excellent (and usually up there with my favs)
For example:
From Leisure - 7) There's No Other Way
From MLIR - 7) Chemical World
From Parklife - 3) End of a Century
From Great Escape - 3) Best Days 7) The Universal
From blur - 3) Country Sad Ballad Man
From 13 - 3) Coffee and TV
They are just a few of my favs and I just love Tender, its so beautiful

My Favorite ones are Parklife, Blue Jeans, On your Own, Coffee and TV. The Blur Boys do it for me every time....

By Judith on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 - 09:08 pm:

Well i think they are great although those words lack really what i think they are. Well i love the songs:END OF A CENTURY, TROUBLE IN THE MESSAGE CENTRE, CLOVER OVER DOVER,SING, and all of them i can't think of a song of theres i don't like.they are all really good they all have a song i can listen to when im sad, happy, annoying,
mad,or just when i need a quick fix.DAMON, is the cutest guy i have ever seen.Just absoultly adorable. Well to be a blur fan there is no if and or buts...they are take it or leave it.They play in a way thats different they play not to set any type of trend just to make music, simple music that can make you dance, sing, hummm, and forgett about it all.

By Aoife on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 - 10:30 pm:

Hmmm... Alex, for some reason you don't seem to know that your new single is actually going to be "Trimm Trabb." Either the others are playing some kind of cruel trick on you, or you're overdoing the champagne...

By Justine Chow on Saturday, April 17, 1999 - 03:25 am:

trouble in the msg centre
beetlebum

ahh! there's heaps more but i think i've said enuff, you just can't pick a favourite!!!

By Tenderman on Wednesday, May 5, 1999 - 01:11 pm:

Well, I just can't pick a favourite because all of them are so emotional... Maybe it could be "On Your Own" 'cos when I go happy-day-glo in the discos I want Lord to give me time for I've jumped into space... And "Tender" is the song that uses to heal my mind... And sometimes I feel like I am "Ernold Same"... again and again and again... And All I Want is to feel something... but I feel nothing... 'cos I'm numb... sing, sing to me... it really, really, really could happen... in a chemical world, in a chemical world, it's very, very, very cheap

Popscene is obviously the best song. Or Sing... Or Beetlebum... Song 2 sends our local crap little nightclub mental at the end of the night, nice change from Steps.

By Wayne on Monday, May 10, 1999 - 08:09 pm:

End of a Century...I can't get tired of listening to that song. Notice that Blur puts a lot of ooh's and aaah's in their songs? That's cool.

I can't get Caramel out of my head.

By Liza on Friday, May 14, 1999 - 10:39 pm:

I was listening to Clover on the Dover today. That song is so tragic.

It reminds me of this story about a Man who fell in love with a poet during his 20's. He gave her whatever she wanted. He was smitten with love and lust for her. They would go up to the mountains at night and make up stories to tell each other. They made love on the rocks of Dover. Sometimes they would read Shakespere and poetry to each other up on that rock.
She would write him fantastic love letters that he would stick in his pocket. Everyone in the town praised them.

Some years later after they where married. She woke up one morning unhappy. She loved her husband but she knew he could never light her hidden fire. She didn't know how to tell her husband. (She had always thought of him as her best frind.) She knew it would break his heart.
She didn't know how to tell him, but she knew she had to tell him. So, she decided to write him a poem declaring her love for another woman. She gave it to him with a nervous smile as he was leaving for work.

Her husband thought the poem must be a joke. It would break his heart to think otherwise.

Later that evening, he met his wife for dinner. He pretended everthing was normal. She was upset by this and told him that it was indeed true. He was so choked with pain that he ran up to the rocks of Dover. She raced after him but could not catch up because her skirt was getting in the way. The last thing she heard him say was, "Meet me on the rocks of Dover, if you want me." She ran as hard as she could till her lungs felt like they would explode. She stopped to cry and fell asleep in exhaustion.

At dawn she met the sun in her eyes. The shock of yesterday hit her immediately. She raced over to their special rock as fast as she could. She found him dead and covered in blood at the bottum of the rocks. In his hand was the first love letter she had ever sent him. She just sat there and cried.

A couple of days later, some towns people went up to the rocks. They found her body laying right next to his. She had ripped out her heart and laid it on his chest.

<<<Terribly sad, I know. I hope I didn't make anyone cry.>>>>

Clover 'on the' Dover. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.........

By Nathallie pokasuwan on Saturday, May 15, 1999 - 03:44 am:

i am a 14yr old canadian girl. the first blur song i heard was "boys and girls", but it was "charmless man" that got me hooked. they are my favourite band, but it's very hard to find some of their older stuff, so my faves are "boys and girls" (i'm so happy that i get to hear it almost every night on the radio! it's just not the same when it's from a cd). i also love "yuko and hiro", "you're so great". i listen to "13" 24/7, and from that cd i love tender, no distance left to run, trimm trabb and caramel, but every single blur song is the greatest. like abbi, if you would please e-mail me, i will write back. other bands that i like are: pulp, radiohead, placebo, silverchair, and many more. thank you.

By Hoist on Saturday, May 15, 1999 - 06:55 pm:

To Michael Connelly,
You must like really sad music mustn't you? Those two are Blur's two WORST EVER songs. Sing is complete bulls**t. Why does everyone like it?!?!?!?

The best Blur songs are definitely Jubilee, Parklife, There's No Other Way, Bang, M.O.R, and basically all the lively songs.

By Aoife on Saturday, May 15, 1999 - 11:57 pm:

Well, there's a sweeping generalisation if I ever heard one! The best blur songs are "basically all the lively ones." What about "Repetition", "Trimm Trabb" "This is a Low" .....I could go on for ages, and also, the amazing "No Distance Left To Run" would hardly qualify as lively, and that's an extremely moving song.

By Aus on Sunday, May 16, 1999 - 07:28 am:

Liza, how tragic! That was an intriguing story. I think I'll go write a song based on some other story or poem. Tschuss!

ABBI> how are you?

By Liza on Monday, May 17, 1999 - 04:17 am:

I guess you like the German language. If I'm not mistaken. I'm glad the story grabbed you. I'm thinking about writing a book over the summer.

supa shopper
I'm a total sucker for harmonies and kooky lounge music!!
Does anyone else like supa shopper or am I just a sad 60's wannabe gogo dancer? (Please don't attack my comments too savagely, although if you do, I'll understand why - I sound really, really, really lame! SORRY! Please, go ahead, attack all you like!)

By Lisa b on Thursday, June 3, 1999 - 11:02 pm:

yo- i'm new at this but my favourite BLUR songs are...

Clover Over Dover
End of A Century
To The End
BLUREMI
He Thought of Cars
Globe Alone
Coffee and TV
Far Out (ALEX JAMES)
Slow Down
Villa Rosie
I love BLUR

By Victoria Hepburn on Saturday, June 26, 1999 - 06:36 pm:

Hoist, you are sad and obviously don't fully apprecite Blur, to say that SING is bulls**t shows that you only like the Blur that the teenybopper twelve year old audience likes (although all blurs lively stuff is excellent) oh I'll just shut up, no offence mate? It's just that Sing is excellent and one of my fav. songs. Anyway has anyone noticed the similarities between Resigned and 1992, well actually I think it's just me! OK so my favourite songs today are (because they change every day) 1. End of A Century, 2. Sing, 3. Sunday Sunday, 4.Peach. I'll check back tommorow 'cos they'll all change!

By Kat on Saturday, June 26, 1999 - 07:47 pm:

I just LOVE "Song 2" because I can play it on my guitar. And Damon's voice makes me horny baby!!!

By Vacant dreamer on Sunday, June 27, 1999 - 01:57 pm:

i don't know why, but all of blur's more 'downer' songs are my favs, 'like this is a low' and 'he thought of cars' but most of my favourite blur songs come from my favourite blur album which is 'blur' i think i love all the tracks on that especially 'killer for your love' 'strange news...' 'death of the party' 'bettlebum' 'theme from retro' you must all think i'm really depressing but i'm not! honest! i just have to add that the bass on 'entertain me' is sickeningly brilliant, as is the riff on villa rosie. If you haven't seen starshaped you must, you will fall head over heels in love with graham, trust me!

By Obsession is my middle name on Sunday, June 27, 1999 - 08:15 pm:

some people mentioned 'battle' already...
well at the moment i'm pretty much obsessed with that one...i mean if one could have sex with a song...i think battle would be my ideal partner...
sorry. I don't usually say things that way...
some other favourites are:
red necks - makes me laugh
fool - a silly song
wear me down - i love the lyrics and the way it is so hard... :)
bugman - a decent live song
caramel - 'and you are...and you are...'
this is a low - gets my vote as well
hard + slow - off graham's solo album. makes me feel all funny.

so now you know...although no-one really cares...or do they?

By Vacant dreamer on Friday, July 2, 1999 - 06:40 pm:

By Lacey on Monday, October 18, 1999 - 04:41 am:

i like tracy jacks, entertain me, yuko an hiro and stereotypes.

By Sarah on Monday, October 18, 1999 - 07:24 pm:

my favourite is this is a low, because it's about the only song with an 'uplifting' message (it won't hurt you) to be really moving. also the lyrics are the best in the world and every time i hear the shipping forecast it seems really magical to me. yuko and hiro is good cos its a really original love song. also the universal and to the end are gorgeous, i have to say that blur excel on their emotional numbers. i don't know why everyone thinks of their pre-13 stuff as cheerful/soulless, they've obviously only heard parklife or song 2.

By Amy ballagh on Saturday, October 23, 1999 - 01:28 pm:

You're So Great is the most beautiful song ever written...(love you Graham)
The Universal, Coffee and TV and No Distance Left to Run are also really moving...
But on a totally diferent note, I also love Swamp Song, On Your Own and B.L.U.R.E.M.I

The band of the 90s?

By Tony on Saturday, October 23, 1999 - 08:04 pm:

what is the defining song from each album?

Sing
For Tomorrow (poss Chemcial World)
Parklife
Stereotypes (though not the best)
Strange News . . .
No Distance (or Trailerpark)

By Sarah on Sunday, October 24, 1999 - 03:54 pm:

Defining songs for me are:

Sing (would anyone disagree with this?)
For Tomorrow (hopeful yet depressing and reminds me of my favourite city)
This is a Low (if you like out-of-season seaside towns)
The Universal (doom-laden, it's this song that makes me miss the old blur)
Essex Dogs (because of the lyrics)
Caramel (it's not my fave, but it's probably the most typical of the album, cos it sounds like they were all stoned when they came up with it) My favourite is Tender.

By TSITH on Sunday, October 24, 1999 - 05:20 pm:

You know:You're so great!!!

By Tony on Friday, October 29, 1999 - 07:17 pm:

Caramel is great but then they add all that motorbike shit .. if 13 was edited properly it would be ace.

Sing is easily the best song on Leisure, bot Modern Life is harder to define a song for! There's about 5 different contenders :)

By Bastard on Saturday, November 6, 1999 - 09:40 pm:

"THEME FROM AN IMAGINARY FILM" is a rather lovely little ditty!

Did anyone go to their singles night concert at the NEC BIrmingham on Dec. 9th? Damon was gorgeous and they were excellent.

my favourite song:
he thought of cars
battle
she so high

By Dick Needles on Friday, January 7, 2000 - 12:00 am:

As a relative Blur virgin, I'd have to say:

Strange News
Essex Dogs
Death of a Party

Favorite lyric:
"Another night, and I thought, well, well"

By Andreas Magnus on Thursday, January 13, 2000 - 02:52 pm:

Well, its hard to say that this or that is my favourite blur song, because all are really very good. The first song I heard from blur, was Entertain me, and this one made me a big blur fan although Ive never seen them in live, but I hope some day, theyll come to Hungary. I could write here all the songs, but I try to write only a few ones: Inertia, Fried, Theme from an imaginary film, One gets born every minute, People in Europe, The Universal, Come together, Advert, Badhead, Look inside America, Trimm trabb, On your own and all the other.
The best sentence: "videod by a buss load of tourist"

By TWANG MAN on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 11:23 am:

ENTERTAIN ME BECAUSE IT HAS ONE HELLUVA BASELINE

By AMY on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 03:24 pm:

MY FAVE BLUR SONG IS TURN IT UP COS IT REMINDS ME OF HOT SUNNY DAYS. I ALSO LOVE FOR TOMORROW LIVE AND TRACEY JACKS FOR A SING A LONG WITH MY MATES

By AMY AGAIN on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 03:25 pm:

I FORGOT TO SAY CHEMICAL WORLD

By Jeremy Steel on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 04:58 pm:

The best blur songs are:

fool
chemical world
advert
jubilee
look inside america
and the swamp song

By Grumpy on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 06:51 pm:

Well most of those are good. But Fool? Fool. Are you sure you didn't mean to type To The End but just muddled all the letters up, then replaced them with other letters and then forgot what all the new letters were except two o's an l and an f and just thought what the fuck I can make those letters into fool so I will just do that.
Does nobody else like To The End? Am I the only hopeless romantic left in the world?
Fool. Tsk.

By Tousled on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 08:09 pm:

No, Grumpy, you are certainly not the only person to like To The End, because I adore that song. I love the chick from Stereolab doing her little french thing in the back. What is it that she says? "Jusqu'a le fin" and "En plein soleil" is what is sounds like to me, but my French is kinda rusty. Hmmm, it is a terrifically romantic song, n'est-ce pas?

By Ellsworth on Monday, January 24, 2000 - 04:44 pm:

Country Sad Ballad Man
Jubilee
Tender (Cornelius remix)

By Alex James on Tuesday, January 25, 2000 - 09:35 am:

Remixes are like giving your dog to someone to take for a walk, and when they bring it back, it's a different dog.

By Loopy laure on Friday, January 28, 2000 - 03:32 pm:

First of all, i would like to thanks by brother in law for introducing me in this marvellous new world which I use to call blur's maniac... it's a great experience... to the point... it's such a difficult question that I just can't never define... I just love their lyrics and the energy that the whole band transmits when singing their tracks (it's actually exceptional...) well i don't want to seem very boring... but they made me change many points of view of my life...
I just listen with all my senses and i can always (to the date)connect myself... from the other hand sometimes it's only the question of enjoying the moment...(I love damon)

By Anonymous on Thursday, February 24, 2000 - 11:39 am:

Tender - it means something different every time you listen to it. Or possibly Parklife, which is nothing like it really, it just makes you happy. Depends what mood I'm in.

By Jumbo Jim on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 - 03:07 pm:

Why is everyone saying Sing, that ain't that good, anyway, anyone heard Sing (To Me) by Seymour?

Tell the truth...

By Grumpy on Wednesday, March 8, 2000 - 08:25 pm:

I really like this board with everybody just being honest about their favourite Blur songs. Has anybody checked which song is the official winner? From a rough whizz through it looks like This Is A Low.

By Sarah on Thursday, March 9, 2000 - 10:11 pm:

grumpy you are certainly not the only romantic left. i love 'to the end'. it makes me feel like life has drama and meaning. and the video is so gorgeously arty!

By Anonymous on Friday, March 10, 2000 - 04:42 am:

I agree w/ Grumpy. I've been keeping up w/ it for a while and it's very. My faves: Look Inside America, Battle, Birthday, You're So Great, Chemical World, and the ever catchy girls & boys.

By Gasoline on Sunday, March 12, 2000 - 09:45 pm:

seems i signed this in june of '99, but my tastes have changed a little since then... my current favourites include:
fool
clover over dover (all time favourite)
strange news from another star
trimm trabb
battle

By The Snoodley Noodle on Monday, March 13, 2000 - 12:09 pm:

As much as love all of Blur's ablum material, i think that most of my favorite Blur songs may actually be their b-sides and rare stuff. I think that it would be great for Blur to release a double or triple (or whatever) CD set to include all the b-sides and other hard to find songs. Being 18 and not especially wealthy, a $250 box set is a little out of my price range. Judging by a lot of the previous posts, it looks like there are quite a few other fans of the b-sides out there...Let me know what you think...

By Sarah on Tuesday, March 14, 2000 - 08:27 pm:

my favourite b-sides are 'all your life', 'young and lovely', 'theme from an imaginary film' and 'bonebag'. lovely.

By Nick Lee on Monday, March 20, 2000 - 07:40 pm:

this is a question that has kept me up many nights, and i'm no closer now to answering it than any other time. still, as of this point i have to say that tender is my favorite. i guess i'm just a sucker for melancholy songs that make me want to fall into an emotional heap on the floor. some other awesome songs are this is a low, all your life, and clover over dover. (and i know this doesn't count, but i'd just like to express that a day is far too long is a great song too)

By Grumpy on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 - 08:47 pm:

Ooh I didn't know we were allowed to nominate a whole album's worth. I am heading off to work on this.
I doubt it will get into my top three but I too love For Tomorrow. Has anyone heard the extended visit to Primrose Hill version with all the brass on it?
Then Susan comes into the room shes a naughty girl (HOPE YOU ARE ALL DOING THE LA LA LAs) with a lovely smile, says take...
Singalong.

By Popscene on Thursday, March 23, 2000 - 08:21 pm:

Of course we have, Grumpy. THATS why its there at
Number 1 for me. Oooh...When they did it at Wembley in December....I threw my shirt towards the stage, convinced I would not need it any more, for it was and shall remain the crowning point in my life.

By Joe the Happy Astronaut on Friday, March 24, 2000 - 10:40 am:

Mmmmmmmm.....Wembley.

Here's mine:

1-For Tomorrow
2-This is a Low
3-Sunday Sunday
4-Starshaped
5-Supa Shoppa (just for the controversy)

By Aus on Saturday, March 25, 2000 - 01:31 am:

Yeah, For Tomorrow extended is brilliant.

By Grumpy on Monday, March 27, 2000 - 12:31 am:

Supa Shoppa???;;;!666+-$$ Your taking the piss Joe.
Here is the scientifically worked out musicologically sound answer done on the Poscene approved 15 tracks in reverse order answer.
15. Movin On
14. This Is A Low
13. End Of A Century
12. Swamp Song
11. Theme From An Imaginary Film (and just look whose laughing)
10. Stereotypes
9. Beetlebum
8. Chemical World
7. There's No Other Way
6. Advert
5. Death Of A Party
4. For Tomorrow
3. Battle
2. The Universal
1. To The End (Hurrah)
And I reckon if you played that lot to anybody (and ignoring the crappy who is the coolest debate) they would just have to admit that Blur are the most versatile, innovative and talented band well ever really.

By Grumpy the harsh critic on Monday, March 27, 2000 - 12:32 am:

What terrible punctuation.

By JTHA on Monday, March 27, 2000 - 08:45 pm:

Ooooooh....Theme from an imaginary film??? Ooooohh..I don't think so. Yeah, I was sort of taking the piss with Supa Shopper but I like to rate the likeability of Blur's songs by how mental I would go if they played them live. And...yeah.

By Anonymous on Friday, March 31, 2000 - 11:15 am:

caramel

By I i n A on Thursday, April 6, 2000 - 12:30 pm:

Ooh, there's too many of them..well...This is a low, the universal, he thought of cars, beetlebum, country sad ballad man, death of a party and all songs in "13"....ooh, and sing and and..i love them all!!

By Gut Lord on Friday, April 14, 2000 - 01:43 pm:

I believe that people who don't listen to Blur have a favourite Blur song (usually song 2)...for the rest of us who simply love Blur, choosing one favourite song is just impossible....but then again...Country Sad Ballad Man, This is a Low, End of a Century...Stereoty...nah forget it, i was right the first time, its impossible...

By Lorraine yang on Sunday, April 16, 2000 - 03:44 pm:

I love battle oooohhhh
Actually I love everything but to really be picky

Battle, trimm trabb, trailerpark, mellow song,
caramel, beetlebum, song 2, you're so great, strange news from another star, essex dogs, universal, country house, mr robinson's quango, top man, tracy jacks, this is a low, jubilee, far out, for tomorrow, oily water, Colin Zeal, miss america, sing, magpie, rednecks, ultranol, a song, french song, cowboy song, woodpigeon song, dancehall...

Yeah I think those are the main ones.

By Nate on Tuesday, May 2, 2000 - 01:01 am:

'End of a century'...why!! because it is sooooo english. listne to the lyrics, nothing is more english than that. great stuff!!

By Dan abn on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 - 08:27 am:

"Country sad..." would be one of my favourite (especially in its acoustic version), although as Gut said before, it seems impossible to really pick one or two preferred songs.
It seems every blur fan has a few songs that bears a "special" feeling, for some reason or another.
I like battle, though.

cheers!

By Teateacoffee on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 - 11:15 pm:

Gut Lord makes sense (Fri 14 April), but You're so Great is an anthem with significance for me.

By Sean on Monday, May 15, 2000 - 03:18 pm:

For me my favorite song would have to be either You're so great or sing... maybe a few tracks off their limited edition jap. album....THERE'S LOADS!
The live version of For Tomorrow is a classic.

By Chris on Monday, May 15, 2000 - 06:53 pm:

Yeah, love that brass section...
