I suppose it was an oath or some [undecipherable] I had written. I am sorry for it. I think I am about the
same as when I joined the army, at least I can see no change. The same letter rather
hinted that some of our mess had too much to do with wenches. I am happy to say that
it is not the case. Silas B. is as far from doing any such as that, as I am, and you
know I am. After John and Silas Mc, Sile is my best friend and except cursing and
playing cards for fun, he conducts himself as well as any man in our Company, and Silas Mc is
not leaving to f___, neither has he anything to do with such a class. The 109 Ill came
into our Brigade yesterday. They are all under arrest except one company, for something
they done at Memphis. I think we can keep them straight. Two thirds of the Reg have
died, been discharged or deserted. There is considerable talk in camp of us (division)
going to Tenn, guess it's all talk. I hope McKee will return soon. Doane is very
partial and always gone. Jehue does the best he can. Tell Zetty I received her letter up
at Shirt Tail Bend or rather on Douglas Farm, part of it from you. Keep writing.
My respects to McKelvey and wife. Kiss Zetty and Vernon for William.
