been expecting their pay for some time. The pay roll has been made out for a week or two for one months pay, but I heard this morning that the roll will be made out for two months, so it
will be a week or two yet. The boys are generally out of money. Cannot get tobacco and you
know it goes pretty hard for men to do without their tobacco. I buy tobacco for several of
them, and loan them money till I am about out, but I am going to make it do me till I draw
money. I use very little tobacco, not over a fourth what I did at home. Jacob Copple is
at the Point yet, but I hear that his wife had went home. I was sorry to hear it. I did hope
she would stay and cook and wash for us. Another woman is here cooking for about
twenty of the boys. It is a hard mess. She does very well for them, but it would not suite
me or John. Zetty, you must be a good little girl and be good to Leander for you said he was
God to you. Tell your grandpa that I have been wanting to write to him for some time, and
will by Sabbath day anyhow. Tell James to write to me all about the mill and [undecipherable] and council. Tell Rebecca and Leander to write all they know. If we stay at the Point
this winter, Leander, Rebecca or James must bring you down and if any one comes, that you can come
with, you must come. I could keep you here a week and no danger whatever.
Dear Sarah, write. Yours, William P.
