I think we can get along very well without him. Silas is a no. one soldier, but sometimes not a very pleasant one. Zetty, I believe I never told you I had a small piece of candy from you in your Ma's letter. I carried it down to Vicksburg with me and ate it, and thought of my dear little girl, and Vernon, and of home, and wondered if I would ever be with you again. I want you to quit calling little brother Oscar. One of our negro cook's name is Oscar, and one of the poorest soldiers in our Reg is called the same. So I want that part of his name dropped forever, and when he gets big, he will sign his name O. Vernon Parkinson. You and little Mary must be good girls and not quarrel, and do not forget me when you get into your new house. But I know you think of me, for you dream such good dreams of me. I have no picture to send you this time. I sent one to Rebecca yesterday. Kiss Vernon and your ma for me, and tell Mary and Jane howdy, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson my respects. Zetty, remember your pa, William
