The master took it pretty hard, but gave it up, and went back to get his horse, but some of the boys had concluded to ride and his horse was gone, and gone for good. He could not find him, so he lost negro and horse, and saddle, and had to walk some twenty miles to get home. This is one of many similar. Well, Zetty, I will draw pay as orderly Sergt from the first of July. John is 2nd Lieutenant. We are needing our money badly. No telling when we will get it. I think we will leave here for good in a few days. No idea where we will go, perhaps to Lagrange, Miss. So you need not be surprised if we are gone from here by Tuesday. I will write before we start if possible. I will write to Lee and James and May before we go if I can. Doane's prospects for Capt on Ransom's staff is flattening. If he is, John will be 1st Lieutenant, me 2nd. I will write tomorrow to some of you. Be a good girl, and remember your pa. Kiss Oscar for me. William
