Paducah, KY, Nov 15, 1862

My Little Zetty,
I have been so busy since I landed back that I have neglected writing as soon as I should a done. We left here on the night of the 30th of Oct. Went up Tenn River by boat thirty miles. There we met eight Co.s of the 13th Wis Reg and I guess of Capt. Flood's battery. We marched across 25 miles to Canton on the Cumberland River, and met four Co.s of the 83 Ill Reg and 5 Co.s of the 5th Iowa Cavalry. We was ferrying across Cum River and camped in Canton one night, stealing all the chickens and turkeys in town, or rather taking them. From there we marched to Lafayette 25 miles. Stayed two nights and one day. While there, we was almost surrounded by Morgan and Woodard Cavalry and they drove in our pickets. We expected a big fight. The citizens of Lafayette ran in every direction from town. I saw women running with a child under each arm. In fact, they was scared to death, but they did not come. From there we marched to Hopkinsville 20 miles, and Gen Ransom
