He paid no attention to it. As she passed on, the boys spoke very polite to her, raising their hats, but she answered in the same way. As she was passing a sergeant in the rear of the Reg, he was just in the act of raising his hat to her, when she belched out, "Hurrah for Jeff Davis." He did not raise his hat, but said, "By God, Maddam, your cunt is all that saves your life." And I do know she was the maddest girl I ever saw, but she did not say another word. Yours is the only letter I have had since James was here. Chances are slim for me to get letters here. It is bed time. Tell Hugh I think him very foolish to go into such business and our country in such an uncertain condition. I think the Union citizens
