But I will tell it again to fill up this sheet. So here goes: About ten days ago our Lt Col Pebles went to St. Louis and I sent with him for uniform coat, pants and vest to cost about forty five dollars, but I do not expect him to get them as he does not know the size. I sent for sword and belt to cost not over thirty dollars, sash $11 - hat, feather, [bow] and figure $10, trunk valise $8, shoulder straps $8. I think that is all I sent for. I do not think the things will cost what I put them at, and I do not think we will get the uniform. I sent $130 with him to pay for it. I think I will get over half back. I am going to get a uniform the first chance. I do not think or at least I do not calculate anything on slipping out of the Reg till the three short years is out. I may have a rope slipped around my neck and slip out that way before my time is up. I was sorry to hear that my dear little Zetty is forgetting me. I thought she would always be glad to hear from her pa. Tell her I do feel so bad since I heard it. Tell her I have one of the prettiest little shells all painted off nice, and the Lords Prayer engraved on it, and I want to send it to her if ever I have a chance. I would give $10 if she had it, it is such a nice little shell, but if she is forgetting me, I will send it to Vernon. It is getting late. I will finish in the morning.
