Reverse Painted Art
What is Reverse Painting. With reverse painting, the artist is creating a mirror image so that the finished painted is exactly the same when viewed from either side. The artist must think and paint in reverse. Each portion of the image is created by painting the detail first and then painting the larger portions. For example, the veins in leaves and centers of flowers all are painted before the surrounding areas. There is no touch-up or over-painting of images as in oil on canvas. And, each portion of the painting must dry before the next portion can be started.
Reverse painting is ideal for hanging in a window to block the view and create privacy without blocking the light.
Sunflowers on a recycled window (left) hang in a customer's family room window, enhancing the view. These homeowners enjoy the art detail, as do the neighbors who see the same image from outside.
Sunflowers
Wildflowers on Salvage Door
While most of my art is painted on recycled windows and doors, this 17th Century art form also is painted on glass panels both for customers with smaller windows or more contemporary homes. Panels can be cut to any size and are edged with zinc "caming," similar to stained glass.
Shipping and Delivery
Do to the size, weight and fragility of the recycled windows and doors, this art must be delivered.  Generally, delivery is available for wholesale purchases to the following areas: PA, OH, MD, WV, VA, NC, NJ. Some restrictions apply. Glass panels can be shipped USPS anywhere in the US and are available wholesale and retail.
More Art
This art form is not limited to hanging in a window and equally dynamic when hanging on a wall. Wild flowers painted on a salvaged transom door (above) hang above the bed on a customer's wall. Here, the painted side is against the wall and the art is viewed through the glass.
Above and in the close up at left, adjoining panels fill the otherwise drab window beside a home's front door. The panels create a bright and cheerful entry inside and give the homeowner privacy from the front porch.

Reverse painting can be used to define space. Above, the dog creates a room divider between the sitting and dining area of a great room.
