Dirt Jell-0
This is the recipe our family has lovingly called "Dirt Jell-0" since my Grandma Shook made it for us years and years ago. No gummy worms EVER came near this dessert like some more recent versions.
Dissolve 2- 3oz or 1 6oz packages of lime Jell-O in 2 cups
of
boiling water. Add 2 cups of cold water with 1/4 tsp peppermint
extract
(optional)
Chill until thickened - about 1 1/2 hours.
Prepare 1 envelope of Dream
Whip whipped topping mix or use 1 4 1/2 oz container of Cool Whip
Pour
1 3/4 cups of gelatin into a 9x5 inch loaf pan and chill about 5
minutes.
Blend prepared whipped topping (or use cool whip) into the remaining gelatin.
Crush 8 Oreo cookies very fine
Spoon one-third of the creamy mixture into the pan. Sprinkle with half
the cookie crumbs. Repeat these two layers and spoon the remaining
creamy mixture on top.
Chill until firm - about 4 hours.
Unmold and Garnish with additional topping and cookie crumbs if you want.
Makes 6 cups or 10 to 12 servings.
