Fat-Friendly Movie Theaters

A vistor to my page suggested that I put together a list of movie theaters with comfortable seating. I thought it was a terrific idea. So if you know of any movie theaters in your area that has wide seats or some other feature that would make it more comfortable for Big Beautiful People drop me a line and tell me the name of the theater, city and state where it's located and a little about the place. I'll list them here. Maybe we can put together a decent reference list for BBP.

California-

Century Theaters - Anaheim, CA - Comfy for large people.

Brenden Theatre Complex of Concord, CA: Hi-backed seating, ALL seats have raisable armrests, very handicapped accessible. The operations manager says they may retrofit the seating in their legacy complex in Pittsburg, CA; they are also planning new complexes in Vacaville and Modesto.

AMC Theaters - Ontario, CA - Comfy for large people.

Cinema Star Theaters - Riverside and Perris, CA - Big, comfy, wide reclining seats with lots of leg room.

AMC theaters in Mission Valley and Fashion Valley (San Diego area) - Have WONDERFUL large "stadium seating" with moveable arm rests.

Century Cinemas - Shoreline, Mountain View, CA- Newly rennovated with lifting armrests and more room between rows. Seating is very comfy with arm rests up!!

Metro Point Edwards Theaters - Costa Mesa, CA.- Stadium Seating with armrests that fold up.

The Edwards Theater - Corona, CA.- Stadium style seats

Century 5 in Pleasant Hill: About half the seats in all theatres have raisable armrests, and also disabled-accessible, a great retrofit from their previous state.

The Marketplace Theater - Riverside, CA.- Stadium style seats

Connecticut-

Sony Theater - Danbury - has wide seats, some seats at the end of the rows have arm rests that lift up.

Showcase Theater - East Hartford - has wide seats, some seats at the end of the rows have arm rests that lift up.

Showcase Theater - East Windsor - has wide seats, some seats at the end of the rows have arm rests that lift up.

Florida-

Most of the AMC that have either expanded or are new use throughout Florida *Note: I have been informed that not all AMC complexes have fat-friendly seating in all theaters for example in Brandon only 13 of the 20 theaters have fat-friendly seats* - Stadium seating (which means they go up steps) but the seats are wonderful... the arms raise up all the way and the seats are tight to each other, so it is like sitting on a couch.

Mugs and Movies - Lakeland, FL.- Table and regular lounge type chairs. Table service. Drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Popcorn and other food. Only a dollar and a quater admission.

Georgia-

AMC 24 Theaters - Jonesboro - Stadium seating joined together with arms that flip up.

Illinois-

The New Marcus Theaters - Addison, Orland Park, Schaumberg, Chicagoland area - Have a few double wide seats. (4 per show)

The "400 Theater" - Sheridan Ave, Chicago - has double wide seats every other row and is a discount theater showing movies a few weeks after their release for only around $2.50.

Crestwood Theater - Crestwood, IL. - The regular seating is comfortable for (at least) 71" hips.

Kansas/Missouri Border-

AMC Theaters (newest): Ward Parkway 22 (central), Olathe 30 (south/KS), Town Center 20 (mid-south), Barry Woods (not sure of the # of theaters)(north) : These are by far the most comfortable... 1/2 of the Ward Parkway and all of the Olathe, Town Center and Barry Woods theaters have the "love seats" with the raisable armrests and stadium seating -- great for comfort and for cuddling!

Dickinson Theaters: Glenwood (mid-central), WestGlen (west): Every other row is some what wider that the one in front of it, the ones in the riser seating at the back are a bit more comfortable, but can only be accesses by stairs.

Cinemark: Cinemark in Overland Park (mid-south), there is a Cinemark in Mission opening up in a few months - should use the same seating (mid-central): Seats aren't super-wide, but are relatively comfortable.

Massachusetts-

Chunky's Pub - Haverill, MA - Seats are new Lincoln Continental seats on platforms that roll, so it's like a drive in. Plenty of room between seats and the tables roll too!! They serve beer, wine, pizza, burgers and fries and other appetizers. They show movies a few weeks after release and only charge $4.00. You can visit thier website by clicking here. Chunky's has received awards from the New England Chapter of NAAFA.

Dedham Showcase Cinema - Dedham, MA - The seats are big and roomy.

Missouri -

AMC20 Commons - Independence Missouri - has those wonderful new seats...

New Hampshire-

The IOKA Theatre downtown, Exeter, NH - Is a restored authentic theater, very historic and charming. It only shows one feature at a time, but the tickets are very inexpensive. The seats are very large and roomy, and a person weighing 335 pounds fits into them comfortably. Another wonderful feature is the antique soda fountain that has become part of the concession stand.

Chunky's Pub - Pelham, NH - See Massachusetts above.

New Jersey-

Menlo Park Mall Cinema - Menlo Park, N.J. - Seats that are comfy for a person weighing 260 lbs.

The Loew's/Sony Theater - Route 1- Big comfy rocking chairs!!

North Carolina-

Hendersonville- Wide, comfy seats.

Ohio-

Youngstown, OH area- * Cinemark Movies 8 -- Wider seats on the end, handicapped section with large seats and room for chairs.

* Cinema South -- Larger theaters have decently comfortable seating

* Cinemark Tinseltown -- Stadium seating, end seats are VERY roomy.

* Boulevard Center -- End seats are roomy (even with cup holders), Decent seating in those without cup holders.

Pennsylvania-

Neshaminy Mall - Bensalem, PA - They have stadium seating and "loveseat" arms on all the chairs. Plus they have plenty of seats in the front of the theatre so you don't have to walk up alot of stairs. Plenty of room to get in and out. Plenty of space between you and the seat in front. Need to get there early on popular shows. They do alot of business

Woodhaven Mall - Bensalem, PA - Nice soft comfortable chairs that have the "loveseat" arms that go up. Even without the arm up I (at 350 lbs.) felt comfortable. Seats are big so there's not alot of room in front of you, but it's not uncomfortable. No stairs to walk up.

Franklin Mills Mall - Philadelphia, PA - My least favorite, but still an option. They don't have the "loveseat" arms on the chairs, so I think some people over 300 may not like it. I don't have a problem fitting in the seats, however my friend who has larger hips than I, does. No stairs. The distance between the seats is alittle small so if you sit in the middle you should plan on staying once others sit around you.

South Carolina-

General Cinema theater in Columbia at the Dutch Square Mall - Have stadium seating with handicap access and seats with armrests that raise. The seats are pretty wide.

Wynnsong Cinema on Forest Drive - Columbia, SC -Has at least one "loveseat" in each theater, but the regular seats are comfy for 74 inch. hips.

Carmike 14 Cinema's - Irmo, SC - Wide seats.

Tennessee-

Hollywood 27 Movie Theatre at 100 Oaks Mall - Nashville, TN.-- The arms between the seats will raise up, like on an airplane.

Texas-

Loew's theater on Central and Spring Valley - Dallas, TX. - Very roomy seats and good leg room.

Galaxy 9 on LBJ and Jupiter - Dallas, TX. - Lots of room.

Virginia-

The Potomac Mills theatre in Dale City, VA - Has seats that are big enough for 80 inch hips in some rows.

Well, that's all I have for now. Please if you know of a fat-friendly theater drop me a line and tell me about it. Thanks!!!!
