Beehive Baby Hat & Mittens
Yarn: Hat and mittens are made holding one strand of worsted weight yarn and one strand of dk weight yarn together (one in variegated and the other in solid colours gives a nice tweed effect) OR one strand of chunky weight yarn.

Hook: size K.  Gauge is not important.

Abbreviations:
decrease over next 2 sc:  pull up a loop in each of next 2 sc (3 loops on hook), yarn over hook, draw through all 3 loops.

The hat is very adjustable.  Start with a chain that is a multiple of 5 + 1.   Continue crocheting in backs of loops until piece is half as wide as it is long.  Then continue with shaping of crown, rows 15-21.

This pattern is very quick and easy and uses up your scraps.  Great for charity projects!
